Huot and Abbott

At some point in the last year we learned that Britt was the Most Valuable Player on offense for the scout team last year. Does anyone have anything similar to share about Huot or Abbott? I, for one, was excited to hear about Abbott after we learned he broke a number of Andrew Luck's records at his high school. Did anyone in Missoula who attended practice this fall see either of these guys play?

I saw both of them in some practices, mostly in pre-season, and they looked good. Especially Huot. I didn't see enough to really have an informed opinion, tho.

Wasn’t Abbott the offensive scout team player of the year?

Until this staff demonstrates the ability to identify and develop talent themselves from within the program I’m not going to hold my breath for success from anyone but a transfer.

I hear we have some future LBs in the qb room again. Lol

Ver Strate and an O-lineman were the 2 recipients of the award.

I think with Britt, Hout, Abbott and now having signed Gage Sliter from Kalispell Glacier we have a nice QB room and there may be others too. This would allow to shop for a drop down if we want to but take our time in doing it. I for one what to develop young guy like the Cats are with Tommy, and that Eastern has done for years.

No matter how good or how poor, when next year's season gets under way, we better have two if not three QB's that know and can run the offense without any drop off. I am tired of hearing they have to dumb down the play book for our backups. Get these guys all spun up!

There is at least one other, the legacy, Ah-Yat, who was the first commit. Got to hope he's like his dad. Sliter is one of those guys, like most HS quarterbacks who can like run and jump and are athletic and stuff, you know - fun guys to coach. Unless he wows someone coming in, I'd think he joins a whole host of former HS QB's on the defensive side of the ball.

Bozeman shopped for a backup for Tommy, given what they saw in the Natty last season. A guy who had all of his qualities, like being able to run with the ball. We shopped for a starter and settled for what was left over on the roster. When the starter went down, he went with the guy who he pulled after the first half of the quarterfinal last season, because he needed a "spark." That third string guy, from what I've read here, had most of his playing experience on special teams. Not a boat-load of development went on there.

Don't get your hopes up about developing QB's at Montana. That's not been the reality, in either Hauck tour. I think the starter could be on the roster now, maybe among the two guys you mentioned, but am not holding my breath as to whether or not we'll ever see that come to fruition.

Unless something has dramatically changed in the last couple months, I don’t believe any Griz fan that wants to win and play in Frisco should hold their breath on Huot as the answer at QB. Based on reports during the Shrine week, he was a complete soft flop….no leadership and an unwillingness to compete. Most of the Shrine game evening, Hout watched from the sideline as Tyson Rostad dominated with 4TDs….much like his older brother, he has been moved to the defensive side of the ball for the Griz. Tyson is a pure winner and competitive as hell….a slightly bigger and equally athletic version of Mellot.

Might also look at Ah Yat's senior season while considering the quality of depth of the QB room. No way he gets signed with a different last name.....

If true, it makes complete sense. Move both Rostad boys to the defensive side of the ball…leave Brown and Huot in the QB room. Pure Bobby genius on display right there.

Maybe because they had no value on the defensive side of the ball.

They occupy 50% of the seats in that room at the current time and neither one would be a guaranteed starter in the Frontier Conference. Absolutely horrible skills analysis and development by Rosey with his room….recruited kids on hope that can’t play and too professionally weak to admit that….better pray for more transfer QBs since these two aren’t going to be transformative.

Abbott looked like he could play a little bit from the film. I get those are highlights, but I'm getting the feeling you think it was a mistake to offer him as well? My contention has long been Rosey has to spend so much time getting the savior, sorry... transfer up to speed, that there's literally no time spend with the rest of the group. Not suggesting he'd do better if there were time, just noting that he's constantly put in the position he's in because as you've pointed out - ineptitude and incompetence.
