Hunter Peck - Frontier DPOY Commits

Was this the Grizbang from 4 or 5 days ago then?
The timing seems to make sense that it would be. He just didn't make it public on any social media platforms, so it feels less obvious and harder to confirm.

Time is just kind of up for any other commits until after spring ball, though, correct?

Love this addition. There is precedence much stronger and more recent than Ryder rice. Keyshawn James Newby at idaho is from helena and got his college career going at tech. First team all big sky. Similar #s and size as Peck. I've always wondered if we could develop a pipeline of dominant kids from the MT frontier schools. Let's go!! 💪💪🙌🙌🏈

That was my thought as well.

That dude dominated at Idaho. Wasn’t he up for defensive POTY for Big Sky and nationally?

With the rule changes regarding transfers I think recruiting the best players at lower levels will be the new trend and best strategy moving forward. The days of really good FBS players dropping down to FCS is over.

Hopefully more impactful.

Impactful is an interesting term. I agree there is a big gap from top of NAIA to D1 at the FCS level. I understand what you mean as far as stats and pressure, but I think Kent wasn’t asking him to be a terror and wreak havoc in the backfield given the linebacking corps we had, especially the guy in the middle. Merely, he was there to hold the edge and play in sync with the front 6/7.

He started 6 games, played in 12, had 24 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 FF, 1 FR, 1 pressure.

The dudes in the center next to him in Jesse Simms (#37) had 46 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks and 1 FF, Eli Alford had 19 tackles, 3.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks and Alex Gubner had 4 INT, 8 Solos, 28 assists, and 2.5 sacks.

Babros on the opposite side only had 17 tackles and a 1/2 sack (FBS dropdown, Juco jumpup)

Behind them you had Jace Lewis who had 131 (65 solo) tackles, 12 TFL, 4.5 sacks, 2 FF, 1 FR. Patrick OConnell had a breakout year with 56 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 1 FR. The dude in the center of that group behind him was all over the field and able to roam free and rack up a record 179 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 3 INT, 5 FF and 1 FR, and won the Buck Buchanan.

Also, I know I missed some stats and contributers, but I’m a poor statistician. Also, after looking at those guys and their body of work and group as a whole, it’s really hard to stomach the 2024 season and the defense.

Nothing against Ryder Rice but if you look at his production it really highlights the enormous gulf between FCS and NAIA.
Agree somewhat. I’d say Univ of Mary which is a D2 is not much different than NAIA. In fact a number of NAIA schools out that way beat up on U Mary often. And Patrick O’Connell came out of there, dominated here, and is now in the NFL. And I’d say Peck is already much more decorated than O’Connell in terms of awards and recognition.

To be fair O’Connell was a So when he transferred and Peck will be a grad transfer. Peck has three more years of experience coming in.
