Huge Valentines Week for Lady GRIZ

Remember the days when 2500 students would show for Lady "Valentines" games. The Zoo would be nuts pre-game and campus was a blast! If only we could bring those memories back...

2 great Home games for the Lady GRiZ...Thurs and Saturday....Hope the students get wild!!! Ask any player; Nothing feels better or helps a basketball player get their "GAME ON" more than having their fellow students pushing the atmosphere.....

It's Wednesday and there's still no preview article on gogriz.com. But you're right, both of these games this week are huge and the ladies need them both to stay in the hunt for the BSC championship (LG are 2.5 games back of UND and tied for 2nd with SUU).

North Dakota still has @MSU tomorrow night, @UM, vs. NAU, vs. Sac State, @PSU, @EWU, and @SUU so two or three more losses still isn't totally out of the realm of possibility for them.

If UM losses Saturday night, though, that would pretty much close the door on any chance for the LG to get hosting rights (with a sweep of UM, UND would have to drop 4 out of the other 6 games listed to finish behind UM). But to reiterate how important Saturday night is, if UM wins out then UND might only have to lose to one other team for LG to host (both would have 4 losses but LG might hold head-to-head over next best team like if UM sweeps SUU but SUU and UND split).

Saturday night will also be the Julie Deming remembrance game which should make it extra special. (Man, I remember that La Tech tourney game like it was just a couple of years back. The Red Raider fans who sat in front of us were impressed with the rowdy, sell-out crowd but wanted the higher seed La Tech (5 seed, I think) to win so they didn't have to play the LG in Dahlberg the next round. The LG were up 10 or 11 on La Tech before falling 81-77. La Tech went on to beat Texas Tech (4 seed, I think) the next game by about 20. First time I had ever called a female a "baller" was from Deming's style of play that season.)

Tomorrow night is also an important game because Northern Colorado beat the LG by 3 at their place already and their scrappy defense always seems to cause the LG problems with a lot of close games.

What, 2pm on Saturday is considered Saturday NIGHT?

I sure wish games on Saturday were at night at 7pm instead of 2pm. Used to be Saturday night games were the best attended but that isn't necessarily the case anymore.

The way North Dakota is playing, I don't see them losing more than 2 games the rest of the way. They are playing like the best team in the league at this time and do not seem to be letting down much. Cats are doing their usual each February so I would count on any help from them in beating North Dakota. Right now, I see UM, SUU, and EWU as having the best shot at beating ND.

When it comes to 3 point shooting I don't seem to hear Julie Deming's name on the list of the best Lady Griz 3 point shooters, such as Cate, Rogers, or Katie Edwards. But, Deming does hold the highest Career 3 point shooting percentage of any Lady Griz player. Cate is second and Rogers is 3rd.

Oh, by the way, here is the preview article on gogriz:

Mandy Morales should be on the best 3 point shooting list.....

Mandy Morales should be on the best 3 point shooting list.....

3 point shooting percentage wise, Mandy is not in the top 10. She made only 36.5%. Deming made 44% of her 3 point shots. Cate made 43.9%. Rogers made 41.8%. the only other Lady Griz to shoot better than 40% at the 3 point line for a career is Linda Cummings at exactly 40%. But, Mandy is 4th in 3 point field goals made.

It's nice to know the Bobcats made me a liar as they beat North Dakota today. Lady Griz beat ND Saturday and there is a tie in the loss column between the two teams.

Hard to believe that MSU has beaten North Dakota twice already this year. Hope the LG can get at least one of two come saturday.
