Those departments and the university in general need to market themselves in a manner that they don't have to get subsidies from the football team. In sure if you got many of those guys alone they'd tell you their disdain for all that is athletics while they cash that check.PlayerRep said:My view is that Bodnar will listen to the athletic department and communicate well with them. He will be fair, but he isn't going to give a lot to athletics or give away the store. He just can't do that politically when all academic and other departments are facing continuing large cuts. Athletics will likely be treated somewhat similarly. He will be a big supporter of athletics generally, as well as of the academic side and the school. He will be very visible. He will be at the game on Saturday, is my guess, as it's Homecoming.

That's kinda dumb. The university is in a budget crunch. You can't just have a department that retains all of its revenue. It's a department of a larger institution. Athletics should benefit the university and all students as a whole.
Absolutely. The Griz might be the face of the University, but they are not the purpose of the University. If the University wants to regain the ground it has lost over the last decade, everyone must move forward together. I know that sounds like a corny political slogan, but it's absolutely true. You can't have athletics, academics, auxiliary services and administrators each heading in different directions and championing different causes. Universities are notorious for breeding distrust and hostile competitions between departments - for attention, for recognition, for resources. I hope President Bodnar has the vision to get everyone thinking win-win for the collective good of the University.
