Dave Dickenson - 2013 OC.

Dave Dickenson - 2014 HC. :thumb:

Seriously, Griz nation would instantly, collectively cream their pants, and then break their wrists writing checks to the athletic department.

In all seriousness, what's it going to take to convince him to come back? He HAS to get that question from every Griz fan he sees nowadays. Pflu said when he was hired he was the guy he wanted more than anyone on his new staff.

We all know we want it. We all know one day it probably will happen.

Why not now? Is this just a Griz pipe dream, or is it actually possible?

Come home, Dave. Come home. :thumb:

Why do people think Dave would be the "be all end all" of coaching? Besides, he's been in Canada way too long. He'd probably make us punt on third downs.

Complete Pipe Dream. DD has said publicly he does not want to coach college football, and by college football, I'm guessing that includes at Montana. It doesn't mean he loves the Griz any less, it isn't a slight against UM or the Griz and there's nothing wrong with it. It's his life. The fact is, DD fell in love with Canada, at least Alberta and B.C. and he's a legend in the CFL, and that's where he wants, to be and where he wants to coach, and he'll be a head coach up there sooner than later.

Good to know. :thumb:

I admit this thread is a bit melodramatic. I don't think one guy can suddenly help the Griz go undefeated every year or anything.

But I do see about half of Griz fans outside this site (sometimes even on this site) pining for Super Dave to come back. That's great that he loves Canada, and yeah I think he'll eventually make a head coaching job somewhere.

However I disagree that he's either been to Canada too long or that he's not an exceptional coach. I think if he came back to the states he could be just as great a coach here.

But seriously, as long as he's still coaching, Griz fans will talk about it and hope for it. He's everyone's favorite Griz, so I guess it makes sense.

Besides which, I think he would be crazy to come back to Montana to coach. The expectations would be over the top. Would be like when Bart Starr returned to coach the Packers ... and was a collosal failure.

I actually have ZERO doubt Dicky would make a great college football coach. My point was, he doesn't want to. he wants to coach in the CFL. That's what he loves.

Almost 45 years ago. WOW! Can't help but compare Engstrom's decisions to the military mindset of the Vietnam war. For those of you old enough to have survived the period, here's the familiar quote:

"It became necessary to destroy the town to save it." Original quote from a military official, February 7, 1968 regarding Ben Tre city.

Roadmap for Engstrom's 'new direction.'

I'd take him back as the Griz QB. Just disguise him as an 18 year old and remind him not to slip up when talking to people and say "eh" or "aboot".

There is no correlation between being a great player, and being a great coach. The love affair with DD as a player is justified. But to think that he would save our program is ridiculous.

Nobody knows if Dave would be a good coach or if he wouldnt be a good coach thats why if the time and need arise you would give him a chance to prove one side wrong. A chance isnt 2 or 3 games for you instant gratification morons, its 4 or 5 years.

If you want to "save" Griz football we need 5 losing seasons in a row. Then we can get new fans. The current fans are akin to a bare cupboard and are not getting the job done.

DD is a pipedream, however I like the idea of hiring an OC as hier apperant when Mick leaves. Makes it less of a transition for the players and remaining coaches

Does that mean you'll leave?

I thought somebody put you out to pasture? I did notice a hint of mothball smell from that last post so......I guess we all have to suffer.
