How much money does Athletics at UM/MSU get in student fee's?

Looking at this week's regents minutes, it looks like UM receives $2,173/resident FTE in state allocation dollars than MSU does. Considering MSU has 8500 resident FTE's, that's a pretty huge gap in state subsidies....like $18.4 Million.

First of all, the State doesn't "subsidize" the universities or university system.

Second, the State and Regents don't allocate funds on the basis of the number of students.

There are other factors, including buildings, maintenance of campuses and specific programs.

I would guess that the State may subsidize MSU more on the basis of number of Montana students. Why should the state subsidize all of the out of state students UM has?

This is a direct line item from the regents budget meeting minutes, so I assume it’s an important data point.

Also, who said anything about non-resident students?

It may be a data point, but it's not how the Regents allocate funds.

I said something about non-resident students.

If the 2 campuses had the same number of buildings, and MSU had twice as many students as UM, and MSU 1.75 as many profs as UM, do you think allocating funds on a per capita student basis would be the way to do it?

If that's what you think, then UM's buildings would get one half as many funds per building as MSU's and UM's professors would get less per capita than MSU's. That makes no sense.

I’m just reporting data. Please feel free to also report data, I won’t take it personal. Lol.

My "data" is that the Regents don't allocate funding on a per capita basis. So, your data is like saying Bozeman has fewer than 100,000 people. Which would be true but irrelevant.

Raw data of most schools. The Montanas aren't the only ones below 50% subsidy but it's close to being accurate. Dakotas do well in that regard as well, maybe UNI and a couple others.

Yes, though probably not USD.

Montanas info was finally added!
