How much input does Bodnar have on new coach?

I'd think a lot, since new coach's success will be on his watch. I realize Bodnar isn't UM's pres. until Jan., but still.... Anyone have knowledge of how this works?

Haslam stated in the press conference that’s it’s his decision to make the hire and he needs approval from President Stearns so I’d say none.

It would be unusual for the interim president overrule the incoming president if he makes it known who he wants to hire.

With all the issues the new president will need to address I doubt he is concerned whom is hired as football coach. It will only have his attention if a couple years down the road the new hire turns out to be lousy.

That's why I said IF he makes it known who he wants. If Bodnar said he wants Bobby, I doubt Stearns would overrule him.

If the process is like other Universities, Haslam is likely the chair of a small committee. The committee has a predetermined survey that is used to evaluate candidates. Each committee member makes a grade for each candidate response, which are summed to give an overall rating. These ratings are then summarized by the chair of the committee and a report is sent to the Provost. Given the importance of the hire, the provost then also makes a decision and reports to the BOR. The BOR makes the final decision.

With that written, given that Haslam is a Dean, the people above him would usually defer to his decision. Thus, I can see why he would say it's his decision. However, regardless of opinion, Hauck comes with a history that may give pause to the people above Haslam.

Bodnar, seen here, playing it pretty close to the vest.

Technically he would have no input on any decision at UM until he actually takes over the helm. There is good reason for this as a lot can or could happen in the next month. He could be hit by a bus full of nuns and join the heavenly choir. He could be abducted by aliens or possibly just change his mind!

Realistically, I am sure he is in pretty constant contact with the decisions being made at the University at this time. However, based on what I have heard about Seth Bodnar, he is not the kind of individual that will jump in to any decision made right now just because he might face repercussions in the future.

Nope. Gettin while the gettin is good. I’m going to tweet @ him about the bus full of nuns though. Thanks for the heads up.

Bodnar, Stearns, or Engstrom. Why did we end up with Stitt? As I remember, Delaney was on board before Haslam. Why another two year delay before Delaney "re-retired" before Stitt was hired? Was Main Hall dictating everything back then? Are they dictating now? Nature abhores a vacuum,
this vacuum of explanation from Haslam leads to speculation. IMO Bobby is the leading candidate, by far. The longer the delay, the more suspect the process will be. I suspect the fix was in on the Stitt hire, as the Chemistry of the process just isn't right. Anyone have facts to rebut the speculation?

I bet being consulted and has influence But no way will allow his input to be on record....gives him plausible deniability after the fact. And since he isn't being paid to be on the record yet, he is doing the smart thing for his personal career
