How Is This Possible (Lack of Holding Calls)

I don't mind the no calls as long as they are consistent! That doesn't seem to be the case with the BSC officials. In my opinion, if the hold affects or is near where the play is developing, it should be called. Pretty much every time that psu qb scrambled, our defenders were blatantly being held! These officials sure seem to know what a hold is when the offender is wearing maroon. To say the least, it's disappointing!

I think they’ve been pretty consistent at not calling them. I believe the announcers during the PSU game complained, 3 or 4 times, that Shaw kept grabbing and holding the receiver. He was called one time for holding/PI. It goes both ways.

Yeah, the holds were way more evident in the Cal Poly game than the PSU game

Agreed. Cost us about 150 yards given up....

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but my opinion is that it has not been called both ways! I have attended every home game and watched every road game on tv and I see it differently. Through my maroon colored glasses, of course. :thumb:

I postulate that the line judge and the back judge are watching more for injury types of offenses and so their eyes are lower, maybe more looking at the knees, certainly looking more at tackling for targeting, and more focused on protecting the QB than in years past. I watch a lot of college football and I probably have seen more chop blocks (lineman engaged high with someone then blocking low) called this year than I can remember ever before -- and many of them pretty marginal at that. Perhaps the "game safety" pendulum has swung far enough to keep the officials from focusing on more mundane offenses like holding?
