How Illinois State and Montana State Built Championship FCS Rosters

I don’t think in state recruiting is as simple as stated, nor the largest issue. Many of the kids attending MSU are there because of the degrees, as much as football. Yes, there are some the Griz lost the battle on. That will happen both ways. The larger issue is the scheme on defense. It just is! Third and twenty on their own 12 and MSU scores a touchdown. First game Griz couldn’t stop the run. Get rid the 3-3-5. Problem largely goes away. Also, two defensive coordinators isn’t working. The end.

😂😂 guarantee Illinois State keeps it closer than 25..
The entire point is that the GRIZ are the second best team in the nation, so to post an article about how southern ill or ill state or whomever had the cakewalk bracket to the title game built a "championship" roster and ask why the GRIZ are unable to is a fucking joke from a troll poster.

But I suspect you knew all that.

The main part of the story:
Prioritize in-state recruiting, build a foundation through high school development, fill gaps with high-success-rate portal acquisitions, and capitalize on recruiting pipelines in talent-rich states.
Gonna be hard to win the in-state recruiting if you can't beat the Cats! Seriously, that's what Choate did, and look at us now!

So, Montana kids all of a sudden decided to pick MSU over UM because of degrees?

Yes, at least two cases on their current roster. The kids didn’t even consider Montana because of the degrees they wanted to pursue. This is a tough concept for some I guess. Kids playing FCS know they have a narrow shot at playing in the Not For Long league. Even if they do, there is no guarantee they get a fat contract and don’t get cut. So, the smart ones prepare for life and choose a degree they believe will provide for them long term. One of the two actually might play in the NFL. I hope he does. I pull for all Montana kids and he has great parents. STEM students are positioned well at MSU. Not everyone is pursuing careers in those fields. Business and some science fields are great at U of M. People need to wrap their heads around what a kid goes through in the recruiting process. They make weird decisions that often defy logic. Anyone who has been through the process knows that.
