how come?

I think we all thought that kid from Kalispell last year was too slow to pan out, but Gonzaga is playing him as a freshman about 5 minutes a game. I think we need to look in Montana more. Just my thought.

Yeah, I got railroaded a little bit when I mentioned Edwards on here a few times the last couple of years. I'm pretty confident he had an offer from UM though. I just wish I knew that the coaching staff did everything in their power to try to persuade him to stay in state. If it was a half-hearted attempt because they knew he'd likely go to a power school then that sucks.
Although not a beast I think his size and ability could have already helped Griz win a couple of those close losses with a little bit of rebounding help.

Re Edwards: With 7-footers timing of development is always the unknown. Practicing daily against others 6'9" and taller is a huge plus...he will play 4-6 years in the NBA and another 4-5 in Europe if he desires...the guy on here that said he'd never play a minute of D-1 needs to give the laptop back to his wife ...sadly, probably a lot of college coaches are making excuses in their heads why they didn't recruit him.

Has played 28 minutes in 3 easy wins and not played in 11 other games. No made FG's on the year but 11 - 14 on free throws. I was one who didn't see him playing much at Gonzaga level and would be happy for him to prove me wrong. After he plays 4 or 5 five years in the NBA and a few more in Europe.....I'll do more than give away a laptop!!!

4-6 yrs in the NBA if he desires....really? I don't know if you've watched the NBA lately, but Edwards is far from being a center at that level even with solid development at GU over the next few years. He'd even be a stretch to make a Euroleague or Eurocup team roster. His best shot is maybe a German pro A team, Italian silver lega team or lower Adriatic league team.
Zags are recruiting Sabonis's son and if they sign him, Edwards will probably be redshirted next year to give him some more development especially defensively since his HS coach didn't do him any services in that area. Gonzaga recruited him as development type player with hopes he will be a solid back-up center. Time will tell, but NBA is a very very far stretch for him considering world wide for that age group there are 50-80 prospects that are more talented than Edwards and less than 1/2 of those will make an NBA roster.

As for the main topic..Montana just doesn't have an overally great level of high school boys basketball. You can find a dozen good NAIA prospects but low major to high major D1 prospects 1-2 low to mid D1 prospects every other year and maybe 1 high major prospect every 10 years. Women's basketball maybe more, but I don't follow it that much.

Griz backer makes some very good points in his posts.
