Houston Thread

We played with spunk in the second half. DeCuire went zone, wish he'd done it earlier. But then j-u-s-t when things are looking good, WHAM! Up pops Mr. Snake, and they go on a 16-0 run, from 61-35 with 8:11 left, to 77-36 when Money makes a free throw at the 1:55 mark--almost seven minutes without a bucket or free throw.

These scoring droughts are excusable--once. But twice is a straight line, and multiple times define a trend line. This team is simply incapable of getting out of these funks.

Years ago I called for an offensive coordinator for this team, since DeCuire is a defensive guy. Somebody around this program has to insist on it because Travis seems unable to fix the problem, let alone even recognize what so many of us on this board have seen time and again and again and again. Mike Montgomery called it out during the Oregon game a year ago, and this year again pointed out that the offense was starting too far away from the basket once again.

I can only think of one word in exasperation: Puh-lease!!

I know Houston is the #6 ranked team in the country, but this performance by the Griz was absolutely abhorrent.

Ken Pom has them at#2. Whatever the ranking,Houston is a legit Final 4 contender. Of course we were vastly over-matched and looked like crap, but I expected that. Hopefully this helps down the road playing Weber and other league contenders. We got paid and got great experience-a humiliating loss was a given.

Moody had Z.E.R.O POINTS! Thomas looked so slow. Money looked good except he was absent in the first half. The Snake (as Citay would say) was a Black Mamba today

I don’t know what you possibly could learn from looking like crap and experiencing a humiliating loss other than you don’t have to do sh….t to get paid to play.

Not sure it’s the same, but Houston being a possible top 5 team is like Griz FB playing Ohio State/ Michigan/ Oregon

How would we do? Seems like Houston probably has 8-10 players better than or best player . Coaches can only do so much

It's not.

It’s difficult to take away much positive from todays rout. It’s seems fairly evident that Houston is a top 5 team and I don’t think the coaches or players had any misconceptions about winning this one. They came out timed and it showed on both ends of the court. The lone bright spot was the play of Money. He was aggressive and played hard. For a freshman he shows great court awareness and moxie. I would not be surprised to see him leave, maybe not this year but next.
Someone on this board mentioned that Travis needs to hire an OC, I concur. As much as I like Travis and his staff their just not getting the job done. I think this could be a watershed year for Travis and the staff.

It was clear that UH had targeted Moody as the key to stopping UM. That first half was nearly perfect D and rebounding by UH. They just over powered UM.

TD made some adjustments in the second half and that seemed to help. However, UH was still too strong and athletic for UM to handle.

I didn't see any injuries, so that was good.

Games like that, you just collect your check and try to have a pleasant ride home. There will be better days.

I guess what you learn from that is you have to get bigger, stronger, and more skilled to compete in games like that.

I'd assume the Griz players "learned" more from this beat-down than they did from their first-game 107-59 "victory" over NIH. Both "money" games; certainly not scheduled with fans in mind. And yet they had a decent outing vs. Oregon.

Win or lose, I'd much rather watch (and support) mid-major level games that players believe they have at least a chance to win. In that light, games vs. Cal Davis, NDSU, San Jose St., Nevada and SDSU -- for both players and fans -- are those that will provide a true litmus test to this team's challenges in Big Sky Conf. competition.

Gotta admit though... as much as I love Griz hoops, the GrizWBB has been more fun to watch so far. ;)
