For Zirg:
The source of the 27-year stat was the UM sports information director.
There is one official scorer. It's my understanding that the referees can come to the official scorer, to make a correction, and the scorer and scoreboard person can and should talk to get things right (and make a real time correction). However, no one else can "correct" the official scorer.
The problem was that the scorer missed the free throw, but the scoreboard guy got the second free throw. Later, the scoreboard guy realized that he had one more point than the scorer. When they couldn't figure out the discrepancy, the scoreboard guy had to match the official scorer.
I was sitting right there (first row). I saw and heard the ref talk to the scorer and the coaches, when SS complained, altho could only hear bits of what was said. As the game ended, I heard a UM official come to the scorer's table and say, "You guys got the score wrong." I talked to the scoreboard keeper after the game, as well as the SID and AD.
Feel free to keep whining, and questioning my information, but I pretty much know what I'm talking about.
