LadyGriz Holsinger on Leave

It could be that UM agreed to pay the attorney fees incurred by SS in the settlement, but I won’t speculate about that because I have never seen the settlement agreement. I assume it’s a public document. If the total settlement was $350K, I wouldn’t say UM overpaid.

Sorry, goatcreek, I did read the 9th Circuit did agree to hear the case in a Montana media story but let's just assume you're right--still doesn't explain away Sophie, Jamie, Mike, Robin, etc. backing up Shannon.

In my post of a few minutes ago, I explained BK was Big Kent--sorry you missed that.

I guess former Lady GRIZ and All Big Sky Guard Sophie Stiles that praised Shannon as kind and caring and a good coach, and diplomatically referred to the LG whining about Shannon as " girls that didn't fit into
the system" knows less than you do , 66 ?

And the only two-time All American in the history of Carroll College Jamie Pickens who played for Shannon, transferred to Carroll after Shannon's dismissal by Big Kent--BK--and and gave a sworn affidavit stating that Shannon was a good coach and she enjoyed playing for her also is out to lunch ?

And Mike Petrino, Shannon's right hand assistant testifying that Shannon was a good, passionate coach that didn't mistreat her players also knows less than you ?

But I did find out that Robin Selvig absolutely couldn't stand Shannon, HHB, from a " source."Rob absolutely detested Shannon both as a player, and then he hated her so much that he hired her as his assistant coach for 24 years --that's pure hostility !!! But my " source" wasn't done and enlightened me that JFK was killed by The CIA and Freemasons, not loner Lee Harvey Oswald, the moon landing was faked on a Hollywood movie set, Israel--not Saudi Arabia--was responsible for 9/11, and Elvis is still alive but at the age of 92 is now residing in a nursing home in his native Tupelo, Mississippi, and the RN's and CNA's have to chase The King in his electric blue suede wheel chair out of female resident 's rooms-- I guess once a Hound Dog alwaysa Hound Dog !!!

It is funny that BK folded like a cheap suit once the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed to hear Shannon's civil lawsuit and quickly put up $350,000 of UM's money 💰. Do ya think he was worried about what Rob, Sophie, Jamie, Mike and others were going to tell this appellate panel ?
That’s a big statement. I know for 100% fact Sophia wasn’t thrilled with Shannon whatsoever. She was one of the players who was transferring out if Shannon remained. One of 7 to be exact. That’s a big number.

I would say the $350,000 was paid in fear of losing much, much more $. Any way you slice it, I think most people--including me--think Shannon won a victory of sorts, not BK, and now with the latest mess in The UM Athletic Department, a lot of GRIZ alum, fans and or donors are asking asking and telling themselves something like, " Isn't Haslam the guy that ( per Sophie, Jamie, Mike and Rob, etc.) screwed up and fired Shannon, passed over Mike Petrino, who supported Shannon, and hired Brian Holsinger instead ? And isn't Haslam the same guy that hired Bob Stitt telling us Stitt was going to win championships and then had to fire him three years later with the program, at best, mired in mediocrity and with Haslam in hot water after his stud turned out to be a dud ? ... Maybe Haslam is the one that should be fired !!! "

No, he thought Shannon would be a horrible coach, and that's why he hired her as his assistant, and despite loathing Shannon as a coach, kept her right by his side for 24 years and then, showing his further contempt, strongly supported her succeeding him !!!

Does your source about Rob, Shannon, Sophie, etc. wear a tin-foil cap, HHB ?

He thought she would be a poor head coach, and he was correct. Just because you are a good assistant doesn't mean you make a good head coach. I am also not so sure your references are accurate. You are trying to hard to make a point that isn't accurate.

You can point fingers at Haslem all day, but firing Shannon wasn't an incorrect decision. The settlement doesn't imply that it was the wrong decision or that Shannon was an adequate coach, it implies that the process was bungled.

There were very real problems with Shannon as the head coach and it wasn't a tightly held secret in Missoula. Despite the impressions she was dismissed w/out cause is contrary to evidence that was out there for at least two years before she was ultimately non-renewed. There were roster management issues, relationships with staff and players, recruiting, coaching and a whole bunch more. She was very aware of those concerns and was unable over her term to affect any sort real positive change that resulted in wins and roster continuity. Coaches, administrative staff, community members, HS coaches and players were quite aware of the issues that beset the program over the last few years.

The reason that it came to players putting their names into the portal (and essentially going over his head) was actually Haslam's loyalty to continuity and tradition. He didn't want to dismiss her and was willing to give her another year to figure things out, and his stance was forced by the players going over his head.
There was a real possibility that she'd have to replace upwards of 10 players on the roster (with transfers and graduations) if all the players left. That was untenable at the time. So he used the non-renewal window and appointed Petrino as the interim to keep players on campus and some continuity going into what was highly volatile and uncertain period. I have heard several responses attributed to her over the years, most of it conjecture, but she never thought she'd be dismissed.

The reasons for the lawsuit had less to do with the reasons for her dismissal, but how she was removed from her post and the verbal contractual agreement she had w/ Kent after the BSC tournament. She felt she had cause for remuneration and felt that she wasn't held to the same standard as fellow members of the athletic department. That is at least how I understood the suit to be filed on her behalf.

Sorry HHB, I will go with Rob, Mike, Sophie and Jamie--I am positive they know way more about basketball than you and your posse, including you, 24--nice long-winded explanation-- it's just too bad it isn't true. Again, Robin Selvig, Mike Petrino, Sophie Stiles and Jamie Pickens' actionvs. interviews and/or testimony just contradict what you are saying, and they know a lot more about the LG and Shannon and women's college basketball , with all due respect, then fans, including you and me. While Shannon was/is not perfect and she took a couple of years to find her sea legs, the LG had a decent year her final year, finished above .500, and were on the upswing after being badly beat up, injured her first two years, including Sophie who suffered a season-ending injury that required surgery--torn ACL.

And for the record you're right HHB: Sophie Stiles was going to leave ... AFTER Big Kent fired Shannon because BK fired Shannon, and Jamie Pickens did transfer to Carroll AFTER Shannon was fired and because of it. Mike was successful in persuading Sophie to stay but not Jamie.

So we'll have to agree to disagree, so let's change the subject. ... It's nice weather in Billings, 7-9 inches of snow on the ground, -3 degrees, still snowing, and I am already sick of shoveling !!!

No, I love life, HHB, every day is a holiday, every meal a Thanksgiving feast--having lost two friends and two clients to malignant brain tumors, having sat next to a young husband/father at a recent GRIZ football game-- in the handicapped section--that had ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, that was sitting in a smart wheelchair that elevated him, turned him left, turned him right , and then lowered him back down so he wouldn't develop pressure sores while he watched the game with his wife @ WA-GRIZ, and suffering from a serious, life-threatening illness myself and being partially disabled as a result, I can really appreciate how fragile life is !!!

So while I don't agree with you re: Billings own Shannon ( Cate ) Schweyen, I also don't bear any ill will towards you and who knows, maybe this football season, we can meet at The Mo Club and drink a PBR with a MO burger 🍔 and together, solve all of the world's problems !!!

Yeah, your right. A 52-69 record as head coach and over half the roster looking to leave is pretty hard to beat.

17-13 in final year when her team was finally healthy and All Big Sky G Sophie Stiles and two-time NAIA All-American Jamie Pickens were better than the whiners, " girls that didn't fit into the system, " just ask Mike Petrino, HHB.

Lady Griz over 4 seasons from 2016 - 2020 when Schweyen was HC:

7-23 / 0-2 against MSU / 0-1 conf tourney
14-17 / 1-1 against MST / 1-1 conf tourney
14-16 / 0-2 against MSU / 0-1 conf tourney
17-13 / 0-2 against MSU / 0-1 conf tourney

That sums up to a record of 52-69 (43% win) / 1-7 against MSU / 1-4 in conf tourney

Then 2021 - 2024 complete seasons with Holsinger:

19-11 / 1-1 against MSU / 0-1 conf tourney
14-16 / 0-2 against MSU / 0-1 conf tourney
23-10 / 1-1 against MSU / 1-1 conf tourney

That puts his 3 full seasons at 56-37 (60% win) / 2-4 against MSU / 1-3 in conf tourney

17-13 in final year when her team was finally healthy and All Big Sky G Sophie Stiles and two-time NAIA All-American Jamie Pickens were better than the whiners, " girls that didn't fit into the system, " just ask Mike Petrino, HHB.
They severely underperformed that year. They should’ve easily won 20+ games that year and don’t forget they also went one and done in the conference tournament. That teams was stacked with Stiles, Pickens, Gfeller, and Jace. That was a product Shannon’s bad coaching that they only finished with 17 wins that year.

And between shoveling, both The Billings Gazette in print and online and SWX are reporting that former LG and now MSU Shi##y Kitty and Shannon's daughter Shelby Schweyen is The Big Sky Indoor Track and Field
