Holding penalties?

Most blatant non-call was on the PR for a TD. Huge holding on our gunner that wasn't called. But then they call Sprunk for being 4 yards downfield on JLM's TD? Bullshit.
Yeah that call across as more of, nope can't let mighty Washington have an FCS school score on them has to be a penalty. I do not blame the performance on the refs but think it did cost the Griz several scores. Same token the Pick 6 by MT was a blatant PI by MT that was let slide.

Yep, with 4 penalties for 35 yards on the Griz, I would normally consider this damn good team performance. But, now I place this loss squarely on the shoulders of the officials.

hahahah :thumb:

Does anyone have a shot showing Sprunk downfield on JLMs touchdown...they never replayed it..and it seems really really odd that the center would be downfield on a play like that. Its not like Phillips scrambled or anything either..it was a drop back play action if i remember right

I haven't seen the replay but on the Griz pick 6, it looked like PI from our seats.

It should have been. But, at least we got one call our way.

I don't agree. I wouldn't have called PI on that play, and don't think many refs would have. It was very nice coverage by the corner, and the corner was able to reach forward with his left hand and make contact with the ball.

The UM gunner on the right side of the long punt return, was held for a long time by no. 1 for UW. At one point, the blocker is about 3/4 behind the gunner and the gunner still can't disengage from no. 1 (because no. 1 is holding him). The Griz had some bad spacing and bad tackling on the punt return too.

From what I saw he just manhandled the defender and in the scrum ended up maybe three yards off the line of scrimmage engaged with a defender. BS call

Again, I haven't seen a replay or anything so I can just go by what I saw live. I wanna see the Sprunk penalty because it's weird for a center to be down the field.

The Official was not more than 8 yards from the play looking directly at it. and chose to ignore the hold.

If you are talking about the punt return, the closest official may or may not be looking at the gunner and blocker, as he is behind and to the side of the punter returner. It isn't clear to me what he is focusing on, as he is on the side of the field away from the play in question. Another official is way over by the sideline and a bit behind the play. He's pretty far away, but I would think he should have been looking at the play in question, but who knows.

Just saw it...haha he didn't manhandle anyone. Looks like he thought it was a run and was randomly roaming 9 yards down the field and didn't touch a defender. I don't know how you thought he was manhandling someone hahahaha

Yup. I played that back a few times. Looked like just a wondering drunk down field. No idea what he was doing/thinking.

As Hillary would say, "What difference does it make?"

What a waste of dialog and bandwidth, all the missed penalties would not have made a difference in this ass kicking. Offensive never made it to the scoreboard.

Yep looked different on TV than I remembered it, although the ball was in the air once he was 5 yards downfield. Looked like he charged forward and found no one to block then just stumbled around like "what the hell?" From the angle, I was at it looked like he had shoved a defender back I see now that they just dropped back and he was totally confused then. Was a valid call.

Look again. He was about 4 yards down field when the ball was released. He went out to block the middle backer, who hesitated and then turned and released down field.

He went to block the middle backer, who hesitated and then turned and released down field because he could see the pass coming. Sprunk was about 4 yards down field when the ball was released.

Hyperbole with the 9 yard comment. He was over 4 yards and moving. So you're saying in pass protection, he's supposed to be advancing and engaging with the middle linebacker? Interesting take on pass blocking you have. :thumb:

I didn't say anything about what he was supposed to do, but if he had been blocking the backer, it wouldn't have been a penalty. Interesting that you don't read very well.

Isn't still a penalty if they don't engage the defender within 2 yards of the line of scrimmage? If it's not illegal man downfield than it's OPI.

Poor play by him...poor play call....poor communication on audible , who knows, but it was a sure not a shining example of execution
