Last week around the 14 min mark in the 4th quarter, they posted this QB comparison. On the very next play Ah Yat hits Wortham for a 28 yard TD.

I thought of Hike saying Mason was the best QB in the FCS. LOL

It sure looked like it last Saturday! Hike is an idiot, glad he doesn't post much

Yep, one will be in the NFL and the other won't. Mason is the best QB in the FSC.

I don’t think Chase Mason is going to be drafted. Too many inconsistencies with his footwork, mechanics and decision making speed as well as now injury history but he will get a look in mini camp and possibly signed to a practice squad to develop. I am not sure if you consider that to be in the NFL or not, many do not. The FCS to NFL is a big jump.

It has been mentioned from a few media personalities from SDSU that Chase Mason has an extra year of eligibility and has said he will be back.
I was wondering what was going on with that. SDSU website has him listed as a senior but missing his whole 2022 season due to injury not sure why that is not being reported as a redshirt. He started playing baseball for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, I am not sure if that has something to do with it. Look at that @nicktaber58 someone who became one of, not the best qb in FCS started off playing college baseball.

Gotta love it, and Pinnick at davis is a duel sport athlete in football and baseball!

One of colters best pods of late is his interview of tim plough ahead of their game against the cats. Plough elaborate on this a bunch, and his emphasis on identifying baseball players in the recruiting process.

Craig Ochs had one of the best seasons I have ever seen at the FCS level in 2004 and barely got NFL looks. I was too young to remember Dave Dickenson on the Griz but his stats here were astounding and he also barely got any NFL looks.

Craig Ochs was clearly the better college quarterback.

Chase Mason is a high-ceiling athlete but never established himself as a productive college QB.

Craig Ochs (Colorado → Montana)

Career: Early 2000s

Status: Proven FBS starter + elite FCS QB

Strengths

  • Highly productive at Montana
    • Led Montana to the 2004 FCS National Championship game
    • 3,807 career passing yards at Montana
    • 63.0% completion, 26 TD, only 8 INT in 2004

  • Accurate and efficient passer
  • Poised and polished—played like a veteran
  • NFL-caliber talent (signed with Chargers, then Bills)

Weaknesses

  • Injuries at Colorado stalled his early career
  • Not an elite runner

Overall:

He was a top FCS QB of his era and one of the best Montana has had.

Chase Mason (Nebraska baseball South Dakota State football)

Career: 2021–present

Status: Tremendous athlete but extremely limited game action

Strengths

  • Elite size/athleticism (6’4+, strong runner, big arm)
  • Upside as a developmental QB if he ever gets consistent reps
  • Multi-sport standout in college (baseball, football)

Weaknesses

  • Very little actual quarterback production in college
  • Injuries and depth chart competition kept him off the field
  • Still more of a projection than a proven performer

Overall:

Mason is an athlete with potential, but he has not produced anywhere close to Ochs’ level.

Final Verdict

Craig Ochs by a landslide

  • Far more production
  • Led teams to high-level success
  • NFL interest
  • Proven accuracy, leadership, and consistency

The only thing Mason does well is run. He is a good athlete but lets face it hes no Trashcan Tommy
This is spot on. He is a good athlete which will generate some interest from the NFL, possibly from a team like the Raiders in another Trashcan Tommy attempt but he is not a serious NFL qb prospect.
