High School B-ball

Oh I agree with you on Travis, he is just fun as heck to watch. He's a good kid too. Cause I teach here and have coached him in football, I am a bit biased. I think he might have a better chance in football than in basketball. just a guess, I was just suggesting to take a look at him, not because he is a D1 talent, because he is just fun when he is on a roll.

I have watched Gustafson play a couple times, he was here before my time, and he is good. He is a terror in old man ball. Scary, very scary.

If Capital had a good coaching staff they could be dangerous this year. :thumb: :thumb:

True enough. :thumb: :thumb:

I finally figured out who you were SFGriz! I knew it was a smart ass, but I have you pegged. Don't even start to ask for help this year at Bank Camp. :tounge:

Class A (boys)
Butte Central

For Class B (boys)
Cut Bank

Class C (boys)
Whitewater

Class AA (girls)
Billings West (Greta (Koss) is the coach!!)

Class A (girls)
Anaconda

Class B (girls)
Townsend, Three Forks, Malta

Class C (girls)
???

And I have no opinion or idea on AA boys, honestly don't follow it.
Well you should because thats where its at!

I think Butte will definitely be the team to beat in the West this year. Title game should be between them and Billings West. They have Ewards at 6-8 on the inside to lead the team. They have good coaching and with that home town advantage will be tough to beat in the regular season and in the playoffs.

After Butte I would have to say Capital. Great post/guard combo for the Bruins this year.

I see it as pretty much a dog fight after this for the remaining two playoff spots.

Kalispell has a 6-8 frosh and senior guards, might make a nice combo

Dont really know much about Helena High but they should prove to be solid as always.

Now to the Missoula schools
I know everyone has Big Sky as the favorite of these three but I think Sentinel could give them a run for there money.

Big Sky will be tough with Morris, Featherman, Owens and others. On a good night they can probably compete with anyone.

Sentinel may be pretty young once again this year but they also have senior leadership at the guard position. They have soph starters Garland in the post and Henkel at the wing back from last year and also senior guard Olson who started last year as well at the point. Another senior guart Thomas saw starts last year as well. They dont have too much size but with a new coach might surprise a few people

Hellgate lost virtually everyone from last years team. They still have some solid players back though in Shaeffer and Vanfossen. Definitely down from last year though.

I'll take Butte, Capital, Big Sky, and Sentinel for the four playoff spots in AA.

In A look for Frenchtown and Corvallis both should be very good.

In B there's a good game this Tuesday as Valley Christian makes its return against cross town rival Loyola, should be a good one.

Thats it for me

Selvig is getting a lot of attention from out of state. When our coaches were up talking to him recently, Bobby Knight just happened to be in the area "hunting, and stopped in to talk to him.

Griz would love to have him. But the Morrill connection is pretty strong. If he goes out of state, that would be a very good possibility.

Yet you have Big Sky in the middle of the pack....Personally Jeff Edwards is overrated. Ive heard he grow to 6'10 over the summer but anywho this kid is overrated. Size doesnt make a kid good.

By the time he graduates he will be a DI player. He has made great strides from his freshman year and see no reason he wouldn't continue to improve given his perceived work ethic.

Have heard the Knight rumor too. Knight has hunted frequently in the Circle area in the past. Not suprising he was in the area.

where would you put them, they're not as good as Butte, and I think Capital is better as well, 3rd in the west sounds about right for them

Say west sounds really good, but do they have anyone who can play in the post? No. Great Falls High has got to be mentioned right along with the best of them. The other thing, are the Griz just accepting the fact that Howard has strong ties with the Cats? Cuz I haven't heard of him coming up to Missoula, but he's been down here alot.

I think this is true in the same way The Cats have all but given up on the Idea of signing the other super junior Derek Selvig. The thing about these guy's is that Old Stew Morrilll at Utah State might end up signing both.

I would not figure Howard a Cat yet, I saw the kid this fall at a Griz football game talking to Tinkle and Paulson after the game. Wouldn't that be a cew to steal one from the Cats

Good start for the local AA teams this past week.
Big Sky beat the preseason #3 from the east Bozeman, Hellgate beat the preseason #2 from the east Great Falls High and Sentinel beat a very good team in class A Corvallis.
The real test should be coming next weekend when all three teams travel to Billings for two games each.
It looks like Hellgate might be better than previously thought, they dont have much size but it looks like Sampson has them playing a stile that fits.
The Bozeman win was a big one for Big Sky. They proved to themselves and everyone else they are contenders.
The win over Corvallis was a good start for Sentinel as well. Corvallis has the ability to compete with almost all of the teams in AA so its a good win for the Spartans.

i watched both hawk games this week and came to a few conclusions. one, helena high has thier worst team i have seen in years. hopefully they are gonna be like the cats this year, start slow, and finish strong. next, big sky is a good team. they played real well down the stretch, limited mistakes and got the win. not to mention they were down double-digits in the first half. last, bozeman will have there work cut out for them this year. they will be smaller than every team they face this year. but they work harder on defense than any hawk squad i have seen. and that's saying something. looks like AA will be interesting this year. :thumb:

Flathead may not start the season as the BEST team in AA, but I'm guessing they're the TALLEST.

Saturday, against Lake City (Couer d'Alene, ID), the Braves starters were 6'3, 6'3, 6'5, 6'6, & 6'8. They also have 2 kids on the bench at 6'4 & 6'8.

They struggled through 3 quarters, but rode a full-court press to a 28-13 4th quarter to win by 11.

Led by 6'8 freshman Brock Osweiler, this squad could be tough for some teams to handle...

ya, thats what i heard about that team. on the other hand, bozeman starters are 5'8, 5'10, 6'0, 6'1, and 6'5! and their bench is about the same!

Looks like the East should be very strong this year
Billings West looks like the real deal, they had big wins over both big sky and sentinel this weekend
Billings Senior looks good as well with victories over sentinel and hellgate
I was also surprised to see that Bozeman beat up on Butte the way they did
Has anyone seen Kalispell play yet this season? from what I've heard they are looking pretty good, do you think they have a shot at it all this year?

You're right about Helena High. Their offense reminds me of UM's: Doesn't work to start off with, and no adjustments are made to help.
