High profile H.S. point guard commits to Griz

As noted in another thread (but I figured this is big enough to merit its own thread), high profile prep guard Michael Oguine (Los Angeles area H. S., West Hills, CA point guard) made a verbal commitment to play basketball for the Montana Grizzlies.

Oguine, a high school senior who has been rated as a high mid-major point guard, and has been rated at between 2.5 and 3 stars (out of 5) by most recruiting organizations, led his Chaminade H. S. team to the state championship last spring.

Josh Gerson, recruiting analyst for Scout.com wrote this in making the announcement: "Michael Oguine is one of biggest steals out west in 2015. Athletic guard can play on and off the ball. Projects as all-league in Big Sky."

I am sure Will Cherry and Dunn making an impact here certainly helps. Our new coach, Travis DeCuire, is a former GRIZ PG, he will likely make our guards better in creating. So far Travis has been a very aggressive recruiter. He is not afraid to compete with bigger schools for talent. Can't get a commitment or even an answer without asking for one. :thumb:

In the West, I can think of few places I'd like to attend for my college years. Montana is right up there.UM is a good school, with traditions, beautiful locale, and great coach. Chaminade is a premium Catholic school with a small enrollment that puts out some pretty well educated kids who seek quality schools. I am surprised Santa Clara or one of the Jesuit schools didn't get this kid. I watched them play twice last year. He is a good one...Montana basketball is getting to be exciting and it is growing on the strength of the recent past.....

Thanks for the mention citay but I think our returning guards are the strength of this team. Dylan Garrity and Mihk McKinney ( POY candidate in the BSC), both seniors will make this team tough to contend with. You got a good one in Oguine. I disagree with that strategy, if there's a quality recruit that wants to play here then we should take them. Scholarships free up all the time so it's likely that a 2nd ride will open up by 2016 anyways, no need to "save" one.
