Hey Player Rep

I will go ahead and defend Player Rep, he is a friend and I think he means well. That said, I have no idea what he may have said in the past. From my point of view, if there are only allegations then the player should not be suspended, however, if charges have been filed then you have no choice but to suspend the player until the criminal process is complete. I'm not sure if that fits what Player Rep said, but as a law student myself I don't think suspending players on mere allegations makes much common or legal sense.

I met Player Rep. He seems like a good guy. And, his love for Griz football is obvious. So when your coach and AD get fired...

"YOU'RE GONNA HAVE A BAD DAY"

Happy now? This is where the road was always going to inevitably lead. THIS is why you suspend players until they have gone through the criminal justice system, not after. It's irresponsible and wrong to put football first, and this is where that road leads. I posed a question earlier this week, and I ask it again, WHERE WOULD WE BE RIGHT NOW IF WE HAD A ZERO-TOLERANCE POLICY FROM THE START?!!

The answer is, 3 to 4 years ahead of where you are today. It'll take that long to get back to this level of coaching and donor/booster commitment. For all the posters saying stupid things like "I hope Engstrom gets shitcanned and the University gets sued back to the stone age.", do you really believe your donors are going to be happy sending money to UM to pay for lawsuits? Really?? Well then, step right up, because they're going to need all the money you can bring.

UM is finally doing the right thing - cleaning up the mess. Look down the road to Bozeman, they went through similar circumstances a few years ago, and it was ugly. Now, MSU has a growing, successful program, and a new stadium. The only way to solve this problem is to change leaders, and instill responsibility from the top down. The Griz have lost their AD, headcoach, OC, DC, and 10 of 11 starters on their defense. I'm a cat fan, but I still like your chances to make the playoffs better than MSU's.

But, now he can clean his nose off and fantasize about having a whole new crop of athletic coaches and athletic officials to brown-nose.

Our program will be just fine. Coaches and ADs don't play on Saturdays. After his first season as coach, many Griz fans would have helped Pflu load his U-Haul to leave Missoula. Now, these same pin heads think the sky is falling because he is gone. Lesson learned is...... sometimes you get what you wish for!

This was going to happen, and we all knew it. Oregon did not rehire this coach, and this might well be why. But, until the UM Community demands answers, and stops apologizing and defending the indefensible as so many have on this site, this program may well be facing years of disarray. Rapists, thieves, drunks...UM is an academic institution before all else. This coach and this administration failed to control that virus. My first reaction is that the president should resign or be replaced as well. After all, the Saudi kid flew off, no doubt, in first class, a week before the police came for him....That is not an athletic dept screw up.....

For once, I agree with MOST of your post. However, you do not know all of the facts about the Saudi student. So, calling for Engstrom's head is lynch-mob stuff once again.

Hopefully, anyone who works in the admissions office will be fired as well, for letting these students enroll and then not controlling their every action.

also, it's obvious that professors let them stay in their class while these investigations are going on...fire all professors who did not kick them out of class the instant an investigation was started. No criminal charges needed, rumors and investigation is enough.

And, you wonder why the actions taken today took place? You seem to have a high tolerance level for criminal activity, or cannot step back and see the patterns that led to this. Either way, the University is being hurt and now has a long way to go to recover what has been lost over the years. This is much bigger than a football scandal...Admissions offices do, in fact, screen the applicants. The actions of the students are their own. Surely, you can see that. How the UM staff deals with criminal acts or suspicions is as the very root of all this...They have not done well..and the Saudi Kid was either prescient or warned while the UM staff either did or did not alert the police who say they acted promptly...lots of stink in Missoula these days...

that's my point....the actions of the studens are their own. IF they are found guilty, kick them off the team and out of school.

If you are going to fire some for the actions of the students that they are "responsible" for...fire anybody and everybody that is "responsible" for the character of student brought to the U of M....for which they have no control.

Interesting snippet from Marc Mariani on the news today....he said "to be honest, I'm pissed, there is no bigger supporter of Coach Phlugrad and Mr. O'day then I am."

Why and for what?? I don't know about you, but I want the University to prosper not suffer.

And Tokyo shows his true level of support for the U? Pay back the people that bailed you out before you judge the U ok?

Marc thinks the team discipline broke down and so do I. The coach can't know everything that is going on, but the team captains usually do. Leaders need to lead or this is what happens.

Fire the team captains!!!!!! they allowed this to happen by not physically controlling every player during every moment of the day and night.

I'm sure Marc at least knows how to spell his former coach's last name correctly, tho.

Hammer,
sometimes when my kids are in trouble, I'll sit them down and talk to them about what they've done wrong and their punishment. Sometimes in this five minute ordeal, I'll say something like "I've told you 50 times that this is not acceptable."

At the end of the talking to, I'll ask if they understand what I've told them, and they reply, "Dad, you haven't told me that 50 times..."
