I'm all for keeping Stitt, but if they had a shot at getting Jeff Fisher that would be awesome
Not sure he'd agree with you about money tho...

Right? Always gotta love people telling others they don't need the money. So far, the strategy for replacing Stitt with a FBS/NFL level talent (setting aside for a moment how fucking absurd that expectation is), seems like hoping someone likes fly fishing and wants to trade The Four Seasons for four seasons. Bold strategy, Cotton.

There seems to be disillusion on this board that everything is about money. It's not. It's about being happy with what you're doing and with what you have. I remember when I was younger I would work every minute of the day wanting a bigger house, newer vehicles, bigger boat, fancier trips, etc... Finally I realized that life was slipping by and I was spending all my time trying to hoard money for when I was too old to spend it anyway...was a sobering moment. Things are different now, I walked away from the big money job and spend more time relaxing and enjoying the people around me and taking in the sights of the world with the one I love.

Unless she can't get away from one of her 3 jobs, then I go alone. Someone has to get dat cash.

Haha! Talk about the ultimate rope a dope post! You had me wondering who hacked your login.

I have not followed this story close enough, but did he really get fired for saying he received death threats? Apparently the program either thinks he is lying or did not go to them first? This sounds like pflu’s “moral fiber” comment (subjective and standing up for what he believes is right). Can someone set me straight? Is there more to the story?

Missed the original telecast so have had to hide in semi-secluded isolation (it's a Slapshot line) until I could find the game on the web today.

I don't get this dump Stitt thing? Did any of you watch the game? Did Coach cause 5 TO's? Did he mess up the offside call that would have made it first down and a chance to cut it to 10-7? (never saying one bad call turns the game, just saying that would have made things interesting) I saw an offense that Coach put in almost double the output of Weber State, in their building. Did he fail to coach the two kids that were bum-rushed for helmet to helmet? (like there were not a dozen hits that could be called "leading with the crown" including almost any running back in the A or B gap play) Did he make sure our best D-back was suspended? (damn you Stitt, you should have stopped that fight).

And for the constant; Coach Semore can't make half time adjustments, as a buddy of mine says "pound sand."

Don't you know, there are so many quality championship caliber D-1 coaches lining up to coach at Montana. That is why the "revolving door" approach is always best at Montana. :thumb:

For me, the head coaching job is not even about Stitt, but being realistic. Fact is, there is no guarantee that any coach will turn the GRIZ into a national title contender within less time than the track Stitt is on. Even if we do replace Stitt, and the new coach has success, he will have done it with Stitt recruits that matured, as they would have with him anyway.

I have still yet to see anyone tell me a realistic replacement option that will meet the expectations of this spoiled and ungrateful fan base are demanding. Crickets when I've asked this time and time again.

Buddy, that track that you speak of is heading nowhere fast. Zero improvement on D or ST since he got here, a flashy offense, and a team that just looks weak willed. Time to take a deep look in the mirror, and decide for yourself if this is actually a Griz team that you can be proud of, or one you think (even if they somehow make the playoffs, which they won't) what is actually going to happen when we face any team w/a half respectable offense come playoff time, or a team with a defense that isn't as horrendous as ours.

Finally, someone who actually understands rope-a-dope.

Ride on Kirk Ferentz...ride on!! That guy's won 62% of his games in his career. 5 losses or more in 6 of last 7 years...probably 7 of 8 in a few weeks. Nice "track"! Go pick on your own coach Bowhunter!

Being honest, Iowa has a solid foundation. They have stability, they know they get a bowl vacation out of the winter every year, and they still have nationally relevent years that takes them to the Rose Bowl. If we were FBS, what Iowa has is exactly what I'd want.

At the FCS level, a foundation of never having a losing season and going into the season knowing you will make the playoffs is a good start. And we don't quite have that yet.

Completely different. Iowa hasn't been, nor most likely ever will be a true championship level team. We hope for 8-9 regular season wins with a decent bowl game, and a B1G Championship contender ever 4-5 years.
Nice try though.

He got fired for performance....the "death threats" comment (and lack of proof or reporting to the admin) is what got them out of the $12.6 mil buyout....they saw an opportunity to get away clean and took it, I believe. If he hadn't said those things, I think he'd still be the Gators head coach because they wouldn't want to be paying him AND Muschamp AND the new guy...

For those that say it is all about the$,I would like them to explain the new UM President.
My wife and I both could have lived somewhere else and made more dough. We chose Western Montana and have never regretted it.

I get taking less, but did you take 20 TIMES less to work in Montana? Because that's what we'd be asking McElwain to do....

Yeah he's gonna go from 4.5mil to $300k. That is laughable.

It might be a great reach on my part Az, but we did get Scott Gragg as a line coach, if we are going with this philosophy. Dan Hawkins went back to UC Davis (I realize not near this salary level). People are motivated for different reasons. Once the top chews you up and spits you out, maybe in the end you're happy with a respected wage and a good place to call home.

I'm not sure (with all due respect) that Scott Gregg and Dan Hawkins will go down as great coaching hires.

Totally fair point mcg! But if you're going to say that, how can we say that McElwain is any better? Gregg, I'll give on since he wasn't a head coach but Hawkins is fair albeit a large salary disparity (UC vs UF) However, my end point remains, I believe.
