Stricklin said that he met with McElwain on Sunday morning, and then UF officials initiated negotiations with McElwain's agent, Jimmy Sexton. The Gators advised Sexton that they intended to fire McElwain with cause and believed they owed him nothing because McElwain failed to alert university officials about the alleged death threats against his family and players, sources familiar with the negotiations told ESPN.

The school owed McElwain a buyout of $12.76 million under the terms of his contract, but it is believed that he accepted much less to settle without going to court. Stricklin said the sides had reached an agreement, but it hadn't yet been signed, and he declined to reveal the settlement amount.

"This is a mutually agreed upon decision," Stricklin said.

Reports are that he received $4 million....$3 million of which is still owed to Colorado State University for the buyout that allowed him to be hired by Florida. So, he'll net about $600k after taxes. I don't think he's looking to retire to Missoula just yet....

Wow, if he left $8 million on the table he needs a new agent and lawyer.

I thought the same, when I read it. If true, he won't be wanting to settle in Missoula, anytime soon .

Jim has had a toxic relationship with the administration at Florida almost from the beginning of his tenure. Not sure we want to touch him.

Wasn't there some shark incident, or am I not remembering correctly?

That's why the call it Florida-Coach Friday. But you're exactly right, I don't think anyone wants another .600 coach here

Being as Jim was a classmate, I've followed this pretty closely. Two things:

1) Florida had reason to believe they could let him go with ZERO payout, as they felt his comments (and failure to tell the administration) about "the team and coaches receiving death threats" violated clauses in his contract;

2) His agent was also the agent of the PREVIOUS head coach of Florida (Muschamp), whom Florida is still paying...and his agent also represents a couple of the leading candidates to REPLACE McElwain, so doesn't want to poison the water by fighting too hard against what many believe to be Florida's great case against McElwain...

Then, his agent should bow out, and JM should work with a good attorney. Looks like this may be settled, tho.

He didn't get the full buy-out (because of the death threat lie), so you can still be in the running...

I thought people didn't want a .611 percentage coach . . .

Just curious, what is Bobby's winning percentage as a head coach?

I figured no one would reply.

IDK if you were waiting for me, but I figured no one would reply too. I'm sick of all these 60% winning coaches' names being bandied about. They've proven that they aren't winners. I will not stand for mediocrity.

BH's FCS winning percentage 0.825; 7 BSC championships in 7 years.
Stitt's FCS winning percentage 0.594; 0 BSC championships in 3 years.

Nice qualifier, especially since the question was in reference to a certain coach that just got fired at Florida and many saying they had no interest in a head coach that was only in the .600 range. (Hint, the would be Bobby too)

Doesn't matter the level. Winners are winners.
