HERO Sports - And Griz fans

Hey Griz fans ...

So our recruiting rankings didn't go over all that well with Griz fans, and I hear ya. And I love ya. I know some of you don't love our "take" but I will tell YOU that I love that you HAVE a take. We're new, we're growing and one of the biggest things we want to do is engage fans/readers.

Two years ago I had Montana at No. 4 in our national recruiting rankings. I loved the 2016 Griz O-line class. LOVED that O-line class. Have received many questions about the state of Montana's in-state class kids (whether they go to UM or MSU) being under rated and under appreciated. Are they? Yes, probably, just like the Dakota kids, Nebraska's kids, West Virginia's kids. It happens.

Anthony Nachreiner and I discussed this topic today on his radio show, and it is available via Podcast here: https://soundcloud.com/user-834730292/brian-mclaughlin-hero-sports

This month I received a ton of questions about Gabe Sulser, who is an impressive skill talent out of your home state. Is he good? Hell yes he is. So are a lot of kids from the other 49 states who signed with the 125 teams I evaluated for those rankings. Our ranking system wasn't based on a "lets exclude one kid" mode, it was a "let's check out all 2500 to 3000 of them" mode.

About 5 years ago I also was questioned nationally for putting Will Dissly on the PARADE All American football team. I actually had editors in New York City asking me if putting a kid from Montana on the team was the correct call. I defended it. He was only the 3rd Montanan to ever make the PARADE list in the 40 years we'd done it. I took flak like you wouldn't believe for that, but hey .... that worked out considering Will is in the NFL Combine next week, right?

I want all Griz and Bobcats fans to know that we are well aware of the talent you have. We featured Chad Newell and Caleb Kidder last year because of that. HERO Sports covers the FCS like no other national entity. We know the talent we have here, collectively.

This fall we'd love to work with UM and MSU to take our national platform coverage of the FCS another step. We know what's about to happen in Montana and it is this: Both programs will be no less than quarterfinal/semifinal level programs for a LONG time. I can see it brewing. The right stuff is happening in recruiting, coaching hires ... you can just sense it.

Hit me up at @BrianMacWriter on Twitter or [email protected] to talk more. Hell, shoot barbs at me, I'm used to it. But most of all ... know we want to hear from you all, good or bad.

Love the focus on FCS and the attention you bring. It's much needed. You did miss on Sulser though..you'll find that out soon enough though and that works :)

Thanks Griz fans ... appreciate you hitting us back -- and hit me up any time @BrianMacWriter or [email protected].

For many reasons, this year we're about to take things up a notch with what we do, and there's no way we'd want to take this next step without being engaged with the fanbases in Montana. They're too important to the coverage of FCS, and they're both on the edge of exploding in a good way. And we'll be all over it. When nearly 50,000 rear ends combined show up on Saturdays at two campuses, and there is a rivalry on that level, it is clear we need to be all over their stories and telling it within a national platform. Delaware is another program I truly think will hit its stride this year.

And with Gabe Sulser, I will be the first person to proclaim he was underrated and underappreciated even by us ... and if it happens as early as this fall, he'll certainly be in the mix for our HERO Sports Freshman All American team. Good skill kids frequently bust out early, as you all know, and hey ... Gabe could be that guy.

Again, thanks for allowing me to throw in our two cents worth here.
