I see not much has changed since ive been gone....

- Bobby Hauck

signed Swarthout, Carlson, Donovan, Mick, Joe, Bobby, Pflu

I wouldn't leave Don Read out of that. He had plenty of issues during his tenure.

I wonder if there is some sort of team punishment for something like this. What would the reaction be if the entire team did a "lot" of extra conditioning. That may increase the players taking care of each other or policing each other. And our team would be in great shape!!!

So it seems unlikely to me that Mr. Hermason was out at 2:30 am drinking and abusing signs by himself, is there more to come here?

He drinks alone......yeah. with nobody else....you know when he drinks alone he prefers to be by himself.

which would make sense, seeing as he is a "destroyer" of signs.

I was going to play that into my post as well.......but I decided less is more. Nice rebound and dunk BTW.

So Hermanson needs to be cut from the team because he committed a misdemeanor? Good to know. Was it stupid, yes. Should he be punished, yes. But let's all take a moment to make sure the punishment fits the crime.

On the bright side, he was not with a stripper named Sweat Pea.

Exactly. Hermanson misses the NAU game, should learn his lesson and everyone else moves on. End of story.

I think the real lesson to be learned here is that simply because he is white everyone wants to hold him to a higher standard.

No response necessary, I know Im right.

I wonder if he was drinking Bourbon, Scotch or beer?

What's funny is that when I show a house that has students renting it, I'll bet about 50% of the time there's stolen street signs on the walls or in the garage. It's a common occurrence, however it is a crime, and the fact that he was dumb enough to do that definitely means he needs to pay the price for his actions.

There's two things about this that really frustrate me:

1. I'm assuming he'll be suspended for a while and not kicked off the team, which I would support. The NAU game is our biggest game to-date, it's the first conference game, it's on the road in a place where we rarely play very well, and it's against a ranked team that beat us last year. Hermey is the eyes and ears of the defense, I've heard others refer to his position as the "QB of the defense." So basically we're headed into a very big game without our main communicator/coordinator on the field for the defense. Sure Whitted and Gamboa (I'm assuming Rominger will miss again due to injury) can come in and cover/tackle just fine but can they come out there and make the proper reads and adjustments needed? They're getting thrown into the fire on a very important game. Hermey's actions were dumb and now could play a major factor in this game. That makes me mad, but I'm betting it makes his fellow players and coaches even more mad.

2. The Griz are really trying hard to overcome an image issue, perceived or real. You need to look no further than the facebook page of the Missoulian where people are putting in their thoughts on this arrest. Negative responses range from kick him off the team, kick him out of school, to publicly embarrassing him. There's multiple posts saying because he's a Griz he'll be able to get away with it (from people who I don't think have been paying much attention to how the current staff handles discipline). There's another that lumps him in with "the rapists" that are on the team (?). There are a lot of people that are very vocal against the Griz because they believe the football team is above the law and can get away with it. I think a lot of us know that's not true, especially right now. Players are actually punished/scrutinized even more simply because they are on the team. However the way to over come those beliefs are by your actions. And Matt's actions did just the opposite of what the team is trying to accomplish.

Well said, yes its not a major crime like other issues in the past but for crying out loud !!!
I kind of like the post that mentions making the whole team do extra reps. Here's an idea, have them run up to the "M" putting the guy who makes the infraction lead the way and if he drops back each guy gets to release some frustration on his ass.

Man, WE as fans need to make up our mind about Matt Hermanson LOL.

Let's review

Comes to Montana and is tabbed the next Colt Anderson by the Northern Iowa game. Rumors fly that he is so good he's transferring UP to Washington State with Breske.

Then, he becomes such a horrible player, right up through the first couple weeks of fall camp 2013, fans have called for his permanant benching, with ANYONE starting ahead of him.

Now, the Griz can't beat NAU without him???

I'm being sarcastic of course, but geez, I'm also not that far off.

Brint, agree with you on your points about being frustrated though. This basically PROVES that no matter what has happened to UM, these guys are still going to make a bad decision now and again. No matter what the program went through, how embarrassing it has been, it wasn't going to turn into the ONLY football program in the country to never have a player get in trouble with the law. It's NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.

Legal process aside, the people that should get to be the "judges, jurors and executioners" should be his teammates. So many of them actually "get it", keep out of trouble, and follow the rules so that when one of their own does a "selfish asshole" move like this, they are the ones who feel it more than anyone else. I would be interested in knowing what they think would be a fair punishment. I doubt MH would get off easy.

+1 I think the backups will play well in the absence of MH.

What if it was this sign? Would it be OK then?

How many of you have never broken, bent or taken a sign?

Criminal mischief is a total non-event "crime".

You sir, are unbelievable.

Instead of saying that these things aren't a big deal, why can't we just expect players to stay out of trouble during the season? Is that really too much to expect?

Because there's 100 of them? I'll put down good money you couldn't choose 100 random 18-23 year olds and have them all stay out of trouble from September-December.
