Herder Picks the Rabbits (Yawn), But ...

out of 27 coaches who responded to him (anonymously), only two picked the Griz to win. https://herosports.com/fcs-championship-anonymous-coaches-predict-montana-sdsu-winner-bzbz/ One of the two pro-Griz coaches gave this entertaining explanation of his pick:

This one should be played halfway in Sturgis in August. Both fan bases would prefer to ride a Harley to the game instead of an airplane and a Uber. SDSU is talented and did everything they were supposed to do this year. Montana is talented and has done everything no one thought they could do this year. Championships are won with defense, and there are two great ones taking the field 7 January. SDSU’s front 4 on defense can control a game. UM’s linebacker’s can change a game. SDSU NIL and I’m guessing a little help from Kristi Noem pitched in and got the SDSU team Quarter horses and a NFR belt buckle after last years huge win. (Don’t fact check me on this one Sam). Montana is still eating beans and packing their elk out by foot. I am surprised the buzz is not giving the Griz a chance in hell. I see an even matchup of the two best teams in the country. Both staffs with this much time to prepare makes for an interesting first quarter to see what they cooked up for each other. Will be a key factor in this game in my opinion. Predict a great one Sam. Through special teams and defense I’m going with Montana.

I suppose I should be offended since I do not ride a Harley or hunt elk ... but a pox on the victim culture. :ugeek: I like his humor and hope he's right.

I am wondering why people are offended because a majority think SDSU will roll.

My guess it is due to the weight given to their 27 game winning streak and the semifinal drubbing of cupcake Albany. I hope the SDSU players are super confident as well. It’s going to be a very close game and the Griz know how to win those.

People are offended? Huh.

But I am wondering why people would be offended that people could be offended.

Yes, I know. I was saying perhaps I ought to be offended that the coach was saying Griz fans were Harley riders and elk hunters--neither of which I am--not that I was offended someone would pick the Rabbits to win. But, oh well...

Nah, I was right there with ya, Rick. I don't think clarification was necessary.

I don’t view it as being offended. In fact, I find the certainty comical.

Did Herder pick the Rabbits? I didn’t look closely. I thought his article on Hero on the 2 teams was good. Few other than Griz fans would pick anyone other than the Rabbits. I’m good with that. I’m not picking the Rabbits.

Look at the winning streak, look at the stats, look at the program. I would pick the Bugs Bunnies too, just like ‘95 Marshall. Glad we get to show them up.

The bigger they are the harder they fall. This one will hurt bad for those wascally wabbits (mostly egos). Griz will get their 3rd OT victory in a row.

The one major tangible I see in SDSU’s favor is the title game has become a norm for them and the Griz are new to the bright lights. I’m sure Bobby and the staff will do everything they can to make this feel like a normal game but I’m sure the Griz will have some nerves that SDSU may be immune to.

And if that’s the case there better be a good EMS presence because 3 in a row might kill a lot of people.

As much as I want the Griz to win if I had to bet a significant amount of money on a team straight up it would be difficult for me not to pick SDSU. Find a way to win Griz.

Which is why I got Griz +12.5 for my $250…

I don't know anything about SoDak governor Barbie handing out rodeo buckles and quarter horses, but I do know that SDSU has a dolled up construction trailer that it uses as a warming hut for players in between possessions. They play a possession and then head to the warm up hut.
That has to be the most candy assed thing in FCS.
