Get some summer reports of open gyms, and maybe even get the GRIZ some extra campers.
Here is the list of summer basketball camps for the GRIZ. This is the time of year where they run open gyms, and put on quite a show for the public to catch. Maybe even some other collegiate players run with them. I would do this if I were home. Us out of towners would really appreciate a few reports. IF you need more information, swing by the basketball offices, or call. Julie, or any of the coaches are more than cordial, and open to giving you times. Wayne will be there during the camps, and is very accommodating to getting to know fans too. The team camp is awesome to watch. You will see some very good players and teams here, especially a few teams from Washington.

2012 Men's Basketball Camps
High School Team Camp (varsity, junior varsity, freshman): June 8-10, 2012
Overnight Camp (Grades 5-12): June 25-28, 2012
Day Camp (Grades K-7): July 9-12, 2012

Thanks for the info.
It's fishn' season, but I'll try to get over to see the new guys.
Has anyone heard if Marco or Martin are in Missoula yet?

Not positive, but I think the players don't show up until the overnight camp. That is about when the summer session starts and I think they are all there for that.

The team camp starts today. Tinkle indicates about the entire Griz team is enrolled in summer classes and should be here this week. They will scrimmage during dinner hour or at 9PM most nights this week, probably in the WAG gym.

The team camp was several weeks ago. The overnight camp started today. It looked like most of the players and some Lady Griz are working the camp, as is Selvig and the Tinkle girls.

My bad....overnight camp is this week. And know the Griz are scrimmaging most nights so a chance to see some of the new guys...but not sure if during dinner hour or at end of each night.

Hellgate boys team playing some pretty good hoops this summer. They won the UM Team Camp and haven't lost in several other games they've played this month. Tres Tinkle playing awesome but entire group is getting better by the day. Last night they took Billings West down pretty bad without Tres who is taking part in his Dad's camp. Jeff Hays has these kids "bought in" and is a heck of a coach.

They've been scrimmaging in the 4:45 - 6:30 slot, I believe.

JR Camel played, last night I believe. Apparently he can still play. Looked like he belonged.

I have to admit it, and sorry to say this. I am very disappointed, not one person took the time to take in the open gyms, and comment on what they noticed, who did what?

The solution for this? Just pay me for me to move back home, line me up a job, and help me get rid of my home in Colorado, then we all get reports. :)

I was told the new big guys look good.

That is a welcomed start. thank you. :thumb:

They also look good walking in their street clothes.

Coach Freddie has great hops. My son think he can get his shoulder to the rim. I didn't see him play in the all-star game, though.

I watched Tues. night. All Griz players including all the newcomers, Qvale and Selvig and three HS recruits from the camp. They played 5 on 5 to 8 or 10 buckets, winners stay on court and probably close to 20 guys in total playing. They went from 5PM to 6:30PM. Will's team held court for first several games. He shot alot more than you see in games with some success, took it to hole hard and played great defense. He doesn't like to lose even these type deals and the competitiveness was very evident.

Of returning players most showed what we know they have. Ward is a good player who's always a little under radar. Shot and rebounded well. Jamar was steady and shot well from inside and out. He and Will went man to man against each other and fought hard. Ward/Jamar/Cherry is nucleus of our team and all looked good.

Weisner shot well, struggled with post defense some but will get his chances this year and looks ready. DeShields was fun to watch, very competitive and was on the team that finally took Will's down. He and Gregory both played steady and made some things happen. These two will probably fight for PT. I see DeShields being able to score and create more for himself and Gregory steady handling and can knock down jumpers when he gets time.

Henderson was most disappointing of returnees. Not sure if he scored all night and one game in particular he was about 0 - 6 with several forced shots. Seems like he needs to get into game via defense or hustle and let offense come to him. After about 3 or 4 forced shots in the one game it seemed like he should have realized it was time to contribute in other ways and wait for something easy on offense.

Hutchison also didn't stand out. He seems to really struggle offensively but did bang vs. Qvale pretty well and seems to understand his role. We need him to improve but wonder how much he ever will.

New guys..
Both new bigs move pretty well, not overly physical but look to have much more offensive potential than Hutch. Marko has both left and right handed inside shot and I like the way he runs the court. Martin looks more raw in his footwork etc but is fairly athletic for a 6"10"+ Both of them could help but center would appear our biggest question mark.

Spencer Coleman has "the look" of a confident, strong and experienced player. His outside shot was off all night and didn't look that great but he can handle and drove it well. He looks the most ready of the new guys to contribute but also a guy that may need to adjust from the JC style to ours. Plenty of confidence and size.

I really liked Willey. 6'7" long arms and huge hops. He was most active on offensive glass of any player and seems to play within himself. Took and made a few shorter jumpers, seemed to always be up trying for the tip and had one huge two handed dunk from a stop where he was way up.

It was fun to watch this group and while very ragged at times, the players are in great shape and worked hard. Coaches there watching but very little communication and seemed to just enjoy watching some pretty good playground style hoops.

Greatly appreciated, and awesome summary. Hope we can get few more updates. It takes about 4 to 5 open gyms to get a good feel for the team.

I believe, all the coaches can do is watch, during the off season, due to NCAA regulations. Believe me, at the end of the year, when the coaches sit down with the returnees, they tell them what needs to be done, and expected in the off season. The coaches know by watching, who is doing as expected, and who is not. It will determine who earned an edge, when the season does start.

I am very encouraged to hear Jordan Gregory was there. That is a great sign. I seen how close he is with his family, and girlfriend 3 times this year. I was really wondering if he might want to be closer to home, again. His family, and girlfriend, really impressed me in their support to Jordan, and the GRIZ!

I am not looking forward to another year of interacting with them, when the GRIZ play at UNC.

Again, thanks for the write up. :thumb:
