Help please. Who received the at large in ‘02?

Working on another project. Can anyone tell me who received the cons at large bid in 2002 when UM, MSU, and ISU all went 5-2? Thank you.

MSU got the auto-bid because they beat both us and ISU, and we were an at large. ISU didn't make the playoffs. Wikipedia says MSU was 7-6, although I can't find their total schedule.

They also lost to Central Washington 31-16 earlier that season.

Man, that season...

We were #1 all season long until Joe Glenn checked out for Wyoming.

Actually ISU beat MSU 18-14. We beat ISU and lost to MSU. MSU beat us and lost to ISU. We finished 10-2, ISU finished 8-3 and MSU finished 7-5 but got in over ISU due to their victory over us I believe. I’m then assuming we got the at large but I can’t find any proof of it anywhere.

Interesting read. A play by play of the final game day of the 2002 regular season.
According to this, MSU got the auto-bid. Doesn’t explain how.
Bit of a trip down Memory Lane 2002...

Very interesting read and that would explain why MSU got in and ISU was left out. Tiebreaker probably done by some points against/for vs common opponents or something. Thank you Charme, you’ve definitely answered my question.

Oh shoot, you're right. I read the article incorrectly. I'm pretty positive MSU ended up with the auto bid, because there's no world in which a 7-5 MSU team that lost to a D2 team gets an at large over 8-3 ISU. I saw an article from several years after that talked about how the Big Sky changed their auto-bid tie breaker rules, but can't find anything about what it was during 2002.

lol

Griz fans of the mid to late 00's would definitely disagree with you on the Dave Coulson take.
