Hellgate Basketball

i agree with monthoops in the fact that its hilarious that Hellgate basketball gets twice the hits that griz bball does. Maybe Krysto will come on here and read all of and hook up McGillis with a spot on the team. I think Cox, Hasquet, and McGillis all have at least BSC level talent and T. Morris could do a better job as a walk on then some of our current walk ons like Nick Thierry???

OK, All 'mslaman56' said was that he thinks Trevor Morris would be a better walk on than Nick Thierry. He's entitled to his own opinion. I personally like Thierry's play, but would hardly call 'mslaman56' comment "Hating". Let's not make this a big deal.

Well obviously Hellgate has been improving since they learned to share the ball, Chuck is rolling, jack is doing the same and T-Mo hits a couple threes every game.

They definatly have the talent to win state, and 8 in a row shows they now have the attitude, plus there is a guy named Sampson on the bench that isnt bad.

Best Starting 5 + Top 3 Bench + Top 3 Coach= State title for the Knights.

to bad trevor morris is so damn cocky, I would respect him alot more if he would leave the attitude at home. I understand that alittle attitude is needed to spice the games up alittle bit.
Did anyone see him trip and fall against big sky last week haha

Yeah, I did see him trip. That was funny. But you know what was even funnier, Was when he came right back down and hit a 25 footer right in Big Sky's grill.

I predict helgate goes pretty far in the playoffs this year and could possibly win it but what about next year, all there best players will be gone. do they have any hopes for next year

We got 3 guys coming that will be our core, then we got some averages players below them. Gale, Shaffer and V-Foss all return.

The thierry comment was for a laugh. That was the only walk on that came to mind. I am with you in that i don't have a clue of what he can do, i just know that hes from washington somewhere, and im sure that he was invited to walk on if hes from out of state in hopes that he would earn a schollie in a year or two. I've met him once and he was a nice kid. Monthoops, you talked of McGillis's out of state offers. Have any of these schools offered money/schollie?? I heard he was being recruited by south or central florida, i can't remember which and siena or canisus, north dakota state, carrol, MSU and UM but those were the only schools i knew that had made concrete offers. Fill me in, any pac-10 offers or anything??

obviously everyone has seen the missoula schools play basketball. i agree that fischer is one of the worst coaches in the state, but you have to look at laz from bigsky also. he will make some really good moves, like last year at state (when they lost to cmr in overtime) but then when you look at this year the program has turned into a joke. they are loosing to A schools and he has some of the most athletic kids around on the team (palmer twins). in the future i would hope to see a rebound because he has some really good talent coming up (class of 06 and 07) but if he doesnt use it in the right way then it will amount to nothing, like this year. and by the way, kellen hasquet is good, but not as good as his brother

At this point, the only thing McGillis could do would be to verbally commit. I think Siena, North Florida, and Air Force are the out of state schools that would like him to do so right now. He couldn't formally sign of course until April 13. I've heard that there is becoming bigger D1 interest everyday. I'm sure a lot of schools want to see how he finishes out the year, as is common at this point in a recruiting process. As far as Pac-10 and the bigger Conferences go, there is interest from some bigger schools, but don't have much information beyond that. The in-State D1 interest is pretty much a given I would imagine.

yo dwyer I agree with you Laz isn't an experienced coach but I think given a few years he could possibly turn big skys program around and when we get a point guard that drive and create some scoring oportunities to compliment paul morris we may just come out with a basketball team L.Carl

Laz is a preety good coach, he did some good things last year without a lot of talent, more than fischer can say.

missoula hs basketball will prolly be pretty average next year, maybe 2/3 will get to the tourny, i dont know about big sky's chances, they havent shown alot this year, but they also dont have a lot.

should be exciting next year, after hellgate takes state this year.

HAHAHA i laugh at such a byist statement...This helglate team reminds of big sky's football team this year...All the talent in the world but yet will not get it done. I would love nothing more then for hellgate to win state this yeah but i would also love nothing more than for you (LjSuNo) to not get so byist with hellgate. I do realize that u are a student there but comn....McGillis is way to cocky to be a state champ. T-mo doesnt have to heart! The only person that deserves this title is Charlie. Lance C. ur retarded (your not suppose to say ur name on this)

I agree with mslaman on the prior comment. No matter how you view Hellgate, (Being whether you think Morris is very cocky and what else) you cant argue that some very talented players are obviously in place there. My question would be which one wil go on to have success at the next level. My prediction would be Jack just because his game is improving and his fundamentals seem to be getting better, for example the free throw line. As far as next season, i think Sentiel may be decent as their two frosh come back, but I think Big Sky can really make some noise with Paul Morris and two sophomores coming back.

One of the things you guys are not looking at is the talent Jack has around him. You can't tell me a kid like Hasquet wouldn't have better numbers if he were in Jacks position. At Sentinel he is pretty much the only go to guy on his team. Jack has got the best passer in the state plus a kid who can stroke from outside on his squad. This makes it hard for the D to focus on one player which in turn is making Jack look very good. Don't get me wrong though he is a good player but I think Hasquet would be a heck of a lot better if he was in Jacks situation. Put Jack on Sentinel and Hasquet on Hellgate and I am sure Hellgate would be in about the same situation as they are now as well as Sentinel. Teams that play Sentinel focus on stopping Kellen. If he is stopped game over. Plus Fischer is an idiot and if he isn't canned this year my great grandpa will roll over in his grave.

yeah dumb kids. have you seen hasquet play basketball? he is pure lazy. if he put in half the effort of some other kids, he would be the player of the year by far. i will not take away that he does have talent. but talent can only take you so far. effort and heart go a long way. and yeah i am a dumb kid at the university that is giving my opinion on a player.

I think there are two ways you can look at the McGillis vs Hasquet situation. The way 'footbasketgriz' did in this previous post, and this way...I don't think ,when it comes down to comparing the two, that it matters which team they are on. McGillis is noticably more assertive and aggressive and can play outside-in and inside-out. He posts up and takes people one on one to the basket much more than Hasquet. Why Hasquet isn't posting up at 6'7" in Montana High School basketball is beyond me. There is no reason why he shouldn't be leading the state in scoring. McGillis gets double teamed just as much as Hasquet. It shouldn't matter. Any great D1 prospect finds a way to get the ball in the hoop no matter what it takes. Kellen is a great player and an even better kid, but when it comes down to it, McGillis has surpassed Hasquet in overall basketball talent and atheletic ability.
