Hawkins out at CU (corrected)

A former coach (one who should not be named) should have waited for the inevitable CSU coaching train wreck to occur. It would have been a much better place than he ended up.

OOPS. Yes, CU. It was my a daughter who went to CSU. (fixed this too: UC to CU, man it has been a long day... got it right in the title at least)

Don't forget... this is a Pac-12 gig now. Can anyone say... Chris Peterson? (or did Hawkins leave a bad taste for Bronco burgers)

FWIW, I work with a few CU grads. One knows a lot of going of the CU football. He mentioned to me that certain coach would have been in the running had he waited. Word has it, Colorado is trying get back to Colorado ties. If they are not too sure about current candidates, it is very possible they may bring coach Mac back to get the right people in place, and have his successor from within. Coach Mac contacted Colorado and told them he is willing and able. We will see who prevails though.

I suspect that BH still has some baggage at CU relating to the Neuheisal era. Coach Mac was a great coach, but that was then and this is now.

The Hawkins experience shows the danger and risk of hiring a head coach. When Hawkins was hired it was perceived to be a real coup for CU. In retrospect, not so much.

I am serious. Coach Mac is 1 of 5 leading candidates so far. I think he will be a short term hire to buy time until they find their long term fit. They may even have him groom a successor. Another of the 5 mentioned so far is the Alabama coordinator we were wanting. Mike Belotti the Oregon AD is mentioned too. I cannot remember the other 2 names right now.

I am not joking about coach Mac. Denver stations have already confirmed the mutual interest by Colorado and Coach Mac. :thumb:

I just can't buy into the Coach Mac thing. It's been 20 years since he coached and football has changed a lot in those years. Many of the kids he'd be coaching weren't born when he last coached. Was he great coach? Absolutely he was, but time has moved on.
