Hawaii joins Mountain WAC...I mean, Mountain West

assuming Utah State might also bolt to the Mntn. West and Louisiana Tech to either Conf. USA or SunBelt, do you think there's a chance Idaho drops down to FCS status and becomes the 14th Big Sky team? I would mention San Jose St., but I keep hearing rumors they're about to drop football altogether.

I don't know, man. It would be a tough sell to go backwards. This may have been asked, but has anyone ever dropped down from I-A to I-AA?

Pard, I don't mean to be crass, but that would be akin to me deciding to sell Toyotas.

if I was Idaho's AD and saw the Kibbie Dome displayed in all it's sad glory on ESPN2 last month, I'd want to hide my program in the FBC until I can build a better stadium.
That's gotta be the most pathetic stadium in all of college football. They can't even put cameras behind the goal posts for field goals because there's a wall there.

Louisiana Tech
New Mexico State
San Jose State
Idaho
Utah State
Texas State
Texas-San Antonio

That is one hell of a conference.

When Idaho moved to I-A in 1996, they only went because Boise State did. Now they're in separate conferences, and there are no games scheduled between them in the foreseeable future. As a bonus, Idaho hasn't beaten Boise State since 1998. They belong back in the FCS unless they opt to drop football altogether.

I had read an article saying Hawaii would most likely get an invite but is it official know?? I also believe that the WAC must have 5 members that have been together as a conference for 5 years to keep it FBS status. If Hawaii leaves for sure you can count on La Tech going CUSA, Sunblet. I feel sorry for UI and hope that they decided that going FCS untill other chages come about might be there best option.

Yes, it's possible Ida would drop. Ida is going to have to do something when the WAC folds.

I'm hearing buzz that Utah State and UTEP will get Mntn. West invites after bowl season. If Hawaii exiting wasn't already the death sentence for the WAC, than this would be if it came true. If UTEP bolts Conf. USA, Louisiana Tech would immediately go there. That would leave New Mexico St., San Jose St. Idaho, and the two new Texas teams plus Denver for basketball. Adios, WAC, unless Montana and Montana State reconsider moving up, which I don't see happening.

I would think that would be a lateral move for you....Pard

Idaho has been an independent before; they can do it again. Play a lot of FBS road games and make good money.

Idaho won't move down so they can play teams like Western Oregon.

Check the Griz 2011 schedule.

Idaho is going to have a schedule twice as good.

Idaho couldn't survive as a Div-1 Independent. Unlike Notre Dame, BYU, the military academies, Idaho couldn't get one respectable team to play them in Moscow. Not even the worst team in the Sun Belt would visit that dump of a stadium in Idaho -- no money, the only TV deal with a local station in Moscow - forget about it.
Idaho needs a conference. They'll stay in the WAC for now and see what happens, but I honestly don't know who the WAC plans to invite. There aren't any teams left to invite west of the Mississippi -- aside from some prospects in the Big Sky, but none are ready yet to make the move.
Cal Poly and UC Davis are about 5 years away from moving up (depending on the economy) -- all the state colleges in CA are hemmoraging money.
