Hauck's last 4 years in the FCS at Montana he was 31-1 in conference and left riding a 25 conference game win streak...

On the UNLV front which is being beat to death, yes he did go there for the money and no he did not tear it up. But I don't know if anybody could really win there, for a lot of reasons.

First of all nobody gives a shit in Vegas about Rebel football, it's all basketball and even that is fading a bit. Their stadium is in the middle of nowhere, it's not exactly student-friendly or even fan friendly for that matter. there's no roads to accomodate the traffic so every time you go there it's an hour or more to get out of that place, that pisses you off every time. And really why would you go watch Rebel football in Vegas which is a proven low acheiver when you can go to a sports book and watch all the college football games in one room and lay a couple bucks on a bunch of them? I would never go to a Rebel game unless it was a non-Saturday game unless I was a die-hard fan.

And you have to wonder about recruiting, what do parents think about turning their kids loose in an environment like Vegas? There has to be a certain percentage of parents who would never consider UNLV because of the potential trouble their kids could get into, especially if their player has had grade or discipline issues in the past.

My brother lived in Vegas for 40 years (and my sister for about 20), we've had this discussion more than once and he doesn't think it's possible that they will ever be more than a lower Bowl team at best because the players and support will never be there to do it. I don't see any reason to doubt that based on what I've seen. Vegas truly is where football coaches go to die now.

You may be totally right and I am not one of those stating hiring Hauck without considering others is the answer. However, those stating Hauck has never built anything and so is a bad choice at this time are probably not right. Hauck won for 7 years here. He won with the prior coach's players as well as built his own through at least one full recruiting cycle. He learned what it takes to win in the BSC and in the post season, including on the road in the playoffs. He probably learned from the NC losses. Yes detractors love to bring those losses up, however, if I had to pick one guy right now that is reasonable for us to get that has the most data to support success here it is Bobby Hauck. Plus he absolutley hates to lose to the Bobcats. I am all for finding a young new coach that has shown some real success in whatever roles they have been in but I dont have alot of ammo to argue against those advocating for the immediate hiring of Bobby Hauck.
