Hauck takes a break from recruiting

"Dickenson, though, was the lone inductee in this year’s class who has won a high school state title, a college national championship, a title as a professional player and a championship as a professional head coach. He checked the last item off that list nine days earlier when his Calgary Stampeders won the Grey Cup in the CFL."

"Dickenson is just the fourth player from the Big Sky Conference to be inducted. In total, only 997 college football players out of approximately 5.5 million have been inducted, which is roughly 0.02 percent of players."

"There is simply no higher honor that a student-athlete can receive, and there's no one more deserving than Dave," University of Montana president Seth Bodnar said in the video shared on Twitter."

So is Hauck paying for this little jaunt on his own dime or are Montana taxpayers paying for it?
So you are suggesting it inappropriate for the University of Montana to be represented at DD's induction to the HOF? Get a life.

As a fellow Montanan I am proud as can be of Dave's accomplishments being honored!

I am also glad our current coach and AD were present on behalf of the University.

Smh. Do you guys really think he is the only coach we have that recruits. This place is absolutely borderline personality disorder.

Well Coach Baer sure in hell does not do any recruiting.

I will say It has been very quiet on recruiting since Saturday when other schools are openly active. Maybe there is something behind the scenes but I think it’s a fair criticism especially if early recruiting falls flat. I withhold judgment until then.

I would have been disappointed had both Haslam and Hauck not been there. UM is after all what got Dave to this point, so it is appropriate and courteous for the athletic department of his Alma mater to make an appearance and support him in what is a once in a lifetime event.

I’m all for him supporting Dickenson, but at this point Dickenson isn’t going to win us games and Hauck needs to be out recruiting in my opinion we have to many holes to fill for him to be taking breaks. I don’t understand why we haven’t heard anymore offers especially to the holes we have we need 2-3 DTs, 2-3 OL, a transfer RB (not another Eastwood) a back that has more than one speed and doesn’t just want to run up the OLs ass, a transfer CB that can contribute right away plus some other backups

Do you even follow the griz recruiting? we don't have that many scholarships to throw around. we aren't MSU who is gonna throw 80 offers out and just take the first kids. You don't think those recruits saw on twitter, our coach at the hall of fame with an inductee from montana.....yea. I hate to say it but for someone demanding things...you obviously don't understand that much about evaluating talent or recruiting classes.

coach baer was in a recruiting picture in a home of a student not but a few days ago.. its fair criticism to wonder if you even know what you are talking about

I saw Bobby at Billings airport Friday afternoon flying in on Portland flight. Was in good spirits on recruiting trail.

Does anyone know if Coach Reed was able to be there? I don't even know where he is at anymore. It would have been cool for him to be there also.

I have watched this thread go to two pages with bemusement and bewilderment. DD was before Hauck's time, but Bobbie is the current head coach ... so he had to be there to represent the UM athletic department. (Hauck is "the face of the program," so having the AD around is a much lesser matter, IMO.) Who paid for the trip is not relevant (although it's a huge plus for the university, so they really should pay).

And Bodner is media-savvy (and has equally smart advisers). Think about a poster-size version of that photo in the Champions Center. A little plaque to explain, and you have a monster display to show visiting recruits. Not to mention a great motivational show for current players.

An absolute No-Brainer.

Having been born and raised in Montana but now making my home a 1500 miles away from there, I still feel a twinge of pride when a Montanan earns recognition for achievements (not political)...Who could possibly object to seeing UM connected to a Hall of Famer being inducted while the school's coach and staff looked on. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GRIZ!!!!!!!!!!!

I bet that list is small overall. Only NFL player I can think of that won both as a player, and coach is Mike Ditka (Bears as coach, Cowboys as player), but his Pitt teams won no NCAA championship. No idea about other leagues.

A text from Bobby: "A very nice deal tonight."

Stark contrast to the text Bobby received from Griz Stud: "You up?"

I gave Craig and Dave D an email introduction to my friend and teammate, who is in the Hall of Fame. Here is my friend's email back. My friend got an award too. See below.

1. "Thanks for the introduction. I will definitely find the Dickenson brothers as we celebrate Dave’s induction, specifically, and football, generally. Buddy Teevins will be there as well. So we can give him some grief about missing out on Dave. [I tried to get Dartmouth to recruit Dave.]

I am headed to New York Sunday. I host a lunch at the 21 Club each year the day of the induction. It is in the Harbor Room at noon on Tuesday, December 4. If you and Dave want to join the group...love to have you. We are having Mack Brown as a special guest....and lots of Hall of Famers....all in....about 40 special people.....friends, fans, coaches. Admiral William McRaven(he lead the group that ultimately got Osama bin Laden) will be there....as part of the University of Texas contingent. It is a celebration of football at a great venue. You would enjoy it.

My sincere congratulations to Dave.....enjoy the moment."

2. "Murry Bowden Named 2018 NFF Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football Award Recipient

The College Football Hall of Famer and Atlanta Hall Management Chairman will be recognized at the 61st NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 4 in New York City."

""You learn leadership qualities in football," Bowden said. "People are looking for somebody to say, 'Let's go take this mountain.' It is a little bit inspiration, a little bit intellectualism and a lot of brute force. I just think it's a great sport. It's a very difficult sport, but it's played a big role in my development from growing up on a ranch in West Texas all the way to the Ivy League. It helped me get there."

"Bowden guided the Big Green to the Ivy League title in both his junior and senior seasons, the first two of an eventual string of five consecutive Ivy crowns. The undefeated 1970 team (9-0) was the last Ivy League school to be ranked among the nation's top 20 teams, as the Big Green finished 13th and 14th in the two major polls. That season, the Dartmouth defense ranked in the nation's top 10 in seven statistical categories, including first in scoring defense and second in total defense.

Bowden was a team captain and earned First Team All-America honors during his senior season in 1970. His other accolades included the Sport Magazine Athlete of the Month Award."
