Hauck is a good coach, but for the second year in a row the UM staff has been out coached by the Cats’ program. Not to mention, I highly doubt there would be this much support for Stitt if he had lost to the cats by a 30+ point margin.

So it was Bobby’s fault a 20 year old kid fumbled the ball on the 1 yard line going in for the win last year?

Not at all. But it’s a coaching problem to allow 29 second-half points while only scoring 3.

Don't forget that he ran the same play after the timeout, MSU showed base D, called a timeout and changed their Defensive call, Bobby ran out the same play with a slight formation change.

It was never clear from what I read, whether the play was exactly the same or not. Some said it was the same play, but that one had gone one way, and the other had gone the other way. I don't think running the same play is any big deal. The Cats guessed that the play might be the same or similar, but it easily could have been a different play. It's a cat and mouse game.

I am not an expert like others, but it looked to me to be a zone-read option play. It may look like the same play, but its execution depends on QB reading the defense. Play shown at 1:35-mark.

Yeah but we were far better than the cats for 95% of the season. We don’t play just for cat griz. They do. We had a great season playing the second toughest record in the country. Beat two conference champions and are seeded in the playoffs. 3 weeks ago the cats playoff chances were in doubt. They needed two games against bottom dwellers to end the season and get back on track.

Bobby’s season was very successful. All of this while being only a few seasons removed from sanctions. I’m happy with where we’re at and headed. This team is young.

I actually felt that the Cats and the Grizzlies were pretty even all year long. Both beat a top team out of a second tier conference (Monmouth and SEMO, respectively), both got their lunch handed to them by a Sac State team playing at their peak, and both lost a game against a playoff team on the road. I think both teams will at least make the semi-finals, unless they suffer key injuries or just don't show up for a game.

With respect to playing for one game a year vs. the playoffs, I unfortunately think many of my fellow Bobcat fans overemphasize the Brawl. If you lived through the streak as a Cats fan like I did, there still exists a weird mixture of disbelief and relief every time the Cats don't lose or even don't look bad losing to UM. What happened on Saturday hopefully finally exorcises the last of the demons of the streak. It is better for both fan bases if this is "just" an important, conference, in-state rivalry rather than what it has been/become.

With respect to the press conference, it sounds like some of the Cat fandom was put off by Hauck indicating that their game planning for Troy Anderson was for naught. They believed it was meant to somehow diminish from the way the Cats dominated from start to finish. In the interest of full disclosure, I didn't watch the presser, but I think I have a less emotional response than most. Cat fans hate Bobby for his first tenure with the Grizzlies. He hated the Cats and had great success against them. His quote about wishing for a fifth quarter to beat MSU some more was cold-hearted and biting (I have no problem with it personally. If you want to shut someone up, you beat them). Put this together and the situation is ripe for conformation bias. If you think Bobby Hauck is an arrogant jerk without the capacity to be humble, you will see that in the press conference. If not, you probably appreciate that he accepted responsibility in the way that best benefits his team and is now charged with leading the team into the playoffs.

Great post! Spot on about the streak and those that lived thru it. I still don't hear a lot of shit from my msu buddies about the game until it's over. The streak took a lot of fun out of the game for a lot of cat fans and made it a much more bitter rivalry.

Didn't think it was condescending at all...Looked like a coach that just got ran over. What part was condescending? No different than the Weber State Coach, post game presser the previous week, other than the Weber Coach used injuries as one of the excuses. Injuries mostly caused my good clean hard hard hits. Was he supposed to come there and praise the Cats and say there the best team ever? Then that would have been ok...lol

Bobby responded to questions the exact same way I do and a lot of people do when he’s pissed. He was just direct short and monotone with his response. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. He was pissed

Not exactly sure why you’re saying this now. Griz fans have been beating their chest for years about the overall record. But now that they’ve lost 4 straight the narrative is “that’s all the Cats play for, the Griz play for more than that”. Just repeating what Hauck said in the presser.
The Griz were not only playing for the obvious state bragging rights, but a co-conference championship and a top 4 seed. They had everything to play for and got worked. The Cats were also playing for a seed, if they lost they certainly wouldn’t have been seeded, so again there was a lot on the line beyond just bragging rights. Apparently this could be a new coping mechanism...

And your comment on the Griz being far better for 95% of the season, not sure exactly where that comes from, and is obviously very subjective.
Was the Griz schedule harder? Yes, no argument. Was it a night and day difference? No, I don’t think it was THAT much harder.

They both got worked by a power 5 school. Yes Oregon is better than Texas Tech, but does that really matter? Neither team stood a chance in those games.

They both got beat handily by Sac St in consecutive weeks, with the Cat game being a closer score if we’re splitting hairs here.

The Cats loss to UND was bad, the worst they played all year, but UND was still a playoff team in the end, so was it really that bad?

So one more loss for the Cats, to a playoff team, qualifies the Griz as “far” better for 95% of the season?

Wasn’t it settled pretty definitively this weekend which team is better this year?

As a side note about the actual topic of this thread, I didn’t have a problem with Haucks presser. It was fair and he gave credit where credit was due. The “all we care about is winning this game” comment about the Cats was dumb and frankly expected something of the sort from Hauck, but besides that, zero issues with the presser.

I say that because half way through the season there were doubts the cats would even make the playoffs. Look at your own board. He griz we’re pretty dominant all year save the Sac game and the Brawl. Cats had to feast on bottom dwellers to get back in the playoff hunt. That’s why I say the Griz body of work this year was better

Also no I don’t think last week proved which team is overall better. It’s football some weeks you get your ass kicked. It wasn’t at all indicative of how good this griz team is. Play that game 10 times and they probably split.

He didn't say what you quoted, by the way. He said this game means everything to them. This is their focus. Maybe we need to be more like that. Not quite the same as “all they care about is winning this game”.

This is yet another example of Hauck saying one thing, and then some Cat fans taking it a different way or claiming he said something else.

It's fine to not like what he said, but it would be better if you actually heard what he said, or were true to what he said.

Out of curiosity, how would you phrase how the Cats view the game. Does it not mean everything to them? It means a lot to the Griz and Griz fans. What is the focus of the Cats? I truly don't know.

While not as true in more recent years, the last thing the Cats could do for the season was beat the Griz, because after that their season was over. That was not the case for the Griz.

Bro. You are crazy level delusional. Cats would smoke the griz every one of those 10 games. The Cats are the better team. Why? Our offensive and defensive lines are SIGNIFICANTLY better, not close, period. The end. Griz have made improvements yes, and are a damn good team. But to say the griz are better and would split a 10 game same size is laughably absurd.

The Cats were declared preseason national champions in 2019. As I understand it, this year, they are also going for postseason national champs. Based on the comments of Cat fans in this thread, another championship looks like a lock for the Cats. So let me be the first to congratulate the Cats in advance!

And Sterk was declared pre-season defensive MVP of the conference, as well as first team pre-season all-conference. He ended up first team non-conference, and 2d team all-conference. He did come back to life for the Griz game and had a nice game, after having no stats the prior week. I look forward to seeing him represent the conference well in the Shrine game, and hope he makes a good run at the NFL. One good thing about the NFL, is that I believe the rookies get some training in cleaning up their social media posting and skills.

I don't think anyone is declaring MSU national champions. That's as delusional as badlandsgrizfan. I think NDSU and JMU are in a league of their own, but match ups are a big part if this discussion.
Personally i think the griz match up well with NDSU (remember UC davis?) and I wouldn't be surprised if they won that game. MSU does not match up well with NDSU at all in my opinion. Speaking of cat griz, the Cats blew out the griz because we have elite offensive and defensive lines, that isn't going to change one way or another until next year, no matter how many rematches you want to play (I'm talking to you badlands).

Why do you think the Griz match up better than the Cats vs NDSU? I would think your "elite" offensive and defensive lines would go a long ways towards leveling that playing field...

Because you have elite receivers and an elite QB. That's a big time advantage against NDSU imo. Especially with Akem back and a healthier / mobile Sneed. MSU does have elite talent on both lines but we would be trying to beat NDSU at their own game (smash mouth fist fight), and that is advantage NDSU all day, although I think we put on a better show than last year.

This will probably get blocked by Griz moderators - but.....showed another level of lack of class by an individual who can’t give the Cats any credit.

Hauck got out coached again today, he gave no credit to the Cats, coach Choate, and the fan base in the stadium. His insinuation that all we care about is this game is ridiculous- yes we want to beat our rival, but the Cat program has bigger goals - just like UM - and we showed that today.

Hauck was condescending all week - and continued that in today’s embarrassing loss. Classless individual - doesn’t portray a good image for Griz Nation

No, you're wrong. He said 'they beat us in all 3 aspects of the game today' and they were better.

I thought he was pretty contrite actually, and also showed a bit of humor. I just don't buy the "we game-planned for Troy all week and that's why we lost" bit, he said last Monday all you have to do is tackle the guy with the ball, and if that's #15, so be it. Make up your mind Bobby! :)

Pretty sure Hauck wasn't outcoached last year. Eastwood fumbled. Not Hauck. Griz absolutely outcoached MSU last year.

How do you figure?

Not sure why, but #22 was AGAIN very difficult to tackle. Sure wish that guy was a Griz.
