Hauck not staying retired redefines his legacy

..

This guy gets it, as do the most of the non-egrizzers
Or it is a guy who needed to make content and has no idea just how much Bobby Hauck was in control of as HC at Montana.

He will have an enormous amount taken off of his plate as DC at Illinois. He won't be coordinating with their NIL. He won't be negotiating with agents. He won't have any oversight of marketing and communications. He won't need to do NEARLY as much fundraising. He won't have nearly as many recruits to talk with and try to schmooze. (half as many, in fact). He won't be responsible for overseeing both halves of game prep, plus be the ST coordinator. He won't have to be speaking at events. He won't have to lead a QB club on Monday nights.

Hauck will have substantially less on his plate at Illinois.

He also won’t have to answer media questions regarding rotating centers or qb’s🤣

Not proactively extending Hauck and the fallout with the current state of the team after Hauck’s retirement is a cross Haslam has to bear. That was the worst decision so far of Haslam’s career.
My guess is that Bobby didn't want an extension yet. In the past, he has said he wants to wait until later in the last year. Haslam can't make him extend or do a new contract.

This guy is stupid. He has no clue about being a head coach and doesn't understand FCS football. He's terrible. Another never-played-the-gamer.

NDSU won the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2024 FCS National Championships….thats dominance.

Prior to joining the FCS, NDSU won the 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1990 Division 2 National Championships….thats dominance.

North Dakota State beat 9 FBS teams while they were an FCS school, notably taking down 6 Power 4 teams….thats dominance.

Thinking the program is now “dominate” while going 2-6 against your rival is flat out laughable.

I agree with most of what you say here. And I am one that really appreciates what Bobby did at UM. And I have been around him quite a bit over the years and I like him. His dad, mom and Tom were as good of human beings as you would ever meet. Bobby put his heart into Griz football and it is better as a result. But I think his comments at his “retirement” conference do ring as somewhat disingenuous. First when he expresses his frustration with the transient nature of college football. Last year the Griz had a defense that was mostly made up transfers and had its best offensive weapon was a transfer within the conference. Not only that but both his first and second times at UM the Griz had transfer QBs that really excelled. He also had an opportunity to make some money like these kids and took it twice. And the line that he didn’t want to “die on the practice field” and then take a job trying to defend Ohio State, Michigan and Oregon? Like I said I hope he does well and I will be cheering for him but his exit was a total case of bullshiting your way out.

Do OCs or DCs typically give media interviews at bigger schools? I actually have no clue. I mean I doubt he will but I also think he wouldn't be able to be as rude to the media there as he was to poor Frank. Lol.

Typically no especially if they do not want to. The head coach is the public face of the program that usually does the media interviews.

I didn’t think you did. You are simply wrong about 2.0 Hauck.
I hate the Bobcats as much as anybody, but beating them is not the most important thing for a UM head coach, especially because MSU has vastly improved in recent years. Hauck resurrected the program after the Stitt disaster and dominated the competition. Do I wish he would have more games against the Bobcats? Of course. But Bobby Hauck was still a tremendous coach for UM. We should all be grateful and wish him the best.

Too many UM fans are just spoiled. Larry Donovan was the head coach when I attended UM, so I learned long ago to count my Griz football blessings.

What about all the losses to the team Hauck refers to as “the neighbors”? It has been decades since a UM coach other than Hauck lost 3x to the neighbors, Hauck lost 8 times to the neighbors. 3x in past 14 months, 2x in the last year with one of them being in the semis to give the Cats a chance to win the chipper.
Let’s not forget the piss poor instate recruiting he did which directly led to the neighbors building a roster that can year in and year out compete for titles. The worst part is that it’s being done by the Cats with multiple guys who wanted to be Griz.

I think you're very right in part of that. I think that in 1.0, he loved the nature of transfers because it was so much harder to transfer up. The "transient nature" is a lot less fun when you are losing projected starters annually.

As for his exit, I'm totally content with it. However it was set up behind the scenes, it left UM in the best possible position to compete next year.

UM won conference in 2023. Who were the multiple Cats who wanted to be Griz?
