Hauck last week "we need to play better football"

As I was watching last weeks game I was elated at halftime with a 21 -3 lead. As the team was coming off the field the t.v. guys snagged Hauck for a comment about how the game was going. Honestly I don't remember the first part of his answer, but I do remember he mentioned twice that "we need to play better football".

Now I am no psychologist and I could be way off base, but, if I am a young kid coming in at halftime with a commanding lead over a team that was supposed to beat us into the ground, I am one happy young football player. Coach comes into the locker room and starts berating the team to "play better football" I'm not too sure I would respond well to that.

Is this the reason we came out so flat?
 
Huh?

They were playing a top 10 team that was making numerous unforced errors in the first half.

BH knew that would not last. He was correct...the Griz did in fact need to play better.

The team has demonstrated they have the depth and skills to play one good half. That's where they are.

Are we really to the point where we are going to analyze halftime media hits? Geez.
 
Before the game started, Delaney said the Griz would need to score 50 in order to beat Davis. After they got the lead, he said the Griz needed to keep scoring because eventually Davis was gonna figure things out and start scoring. In the second half as Davis came back, Delaney mentioned how Davis didn't mind 3rd and long because the offense converts a large percentage. He was right on all counts. Mick and Co. get some flack sometimes for their commentary, but it was spot on. And if they knew this stuff, you damn well know Hauck and Co. knew.

We left 6-14 points on the field in the first half, Bobby knew those would probably be crucial later on as Davis started to find their stride. That's probably what he was thinking about going into the locker room, and he was right.

He should have also noted they could have coached better in that first half. One of the touchdowns they left on the field that half came after they’d gone for it on fourth down & settled for a field goal try that was missed.

Except for the Stanford game, Davis has been north of 40 every game this year & literally showed them the same comeback against Spud state a week or two earlier. Spud state actually has an offense that can score in both halves. Field goals are going to cut it - against a team who can score in bunches.

And when gramps & company are telling you on TV that Davis blitzes off the corner & they don’t account for it in the slightest... SMFH.

DD, Bobby is a very good football coach and he knows what he is talking about. I don’t think the players feelings were hurt as a result of his comments.

He predicted the Calhoun touchdown run while they were literally calling the play @ the line.

If you would get your little feelers hurt over a comment like this, you probably shouldn't be on the team in the first place. How about instead you respond with, "You think we need to play better football? I'll show you better football!", and come out fired up and destroy the competition.

A - most likely players didn't know what he told the media at half and B - doubt you were in the locker room to know if he was "berating the team".

none of us know what goes on behind closed doors.

If there is a coach out there that takes the approach of satisfaction and encouragement into the locker room at half-time, that coach is probably looking for a job. The best coaches have that "always improve" mentality.

Mick had a very good day Saturday. Was predicting plays before they were ran, called the 50-spot requirement and was right on the money....he was on his game.

As intuitive as Mick was, you would think we were related or something.

Mick's five decades of coaching was omnipresent.
