MISSOULA - Sophomore Jordan Hasquet is the most valuable player for the 2006-07 University of Montana men’s basketball team.

Hasquet received the 2007 Carl Dragstedt Award at the team’s annual post-season awards dinner Tuesday night.

Senior guard Bryan Ellis received the John Eaheart Award as the team’s outstanding defensive player.

Junior forward Andrew Strait was the recipient of the Allan Nielsen Award given to the player who best represents Grizzly basketball”).

The Naseby Rhinehart Award given to the team’s most inspiration player was shared by senior forward Mike Chavez and sophomore guard Greg Spurgetis.

Hasquet averaged 13 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds a game starting in 31 of 32 games this past season. He was a first team All-Big Sky Conference selection.

Ellis also was named the Big Sky Conference’s defensive player of the year and has been ranked among the league leaders in assists and steals the past two seasons.

Strait, who started and played in 30 games, was Montana’s leading scorer this season with 15 points a game and tied Hasquet for rebounding honors. Strait was named second team All-Big Sky this past season after being one of two unanimous first team all-league selections as a sophomore.

Chavez is a three-year letterman who played in 28 games, started in three this past year, and played in 79 career games.

Spurgetis played in nine games this year.

Congratulations to each award winner. Extra thanks to Hasquet for proving me right on his abilities. :thumb: We are in for some very special things over the next 2 years from Mr Hasquet and Rundles (3 years). Less than 5 games into the season, people were riding this kid hard, and look what he ended up doing.

Hell when the GRIZ recruited him, many thought he did not have what it took to be a key player at 1A basketball. Guess it proves to never give up on a player and the coaches no more than your average fan in most cases.

Here is to hoping Hasquet works on his ballhandling and perimeter defense in the off season. Also hoping Strait works on his FT's, footwork, and 15 ft out perimeter shot.

Also I hope Tyler Hurley will learn much from Jordan as for being an instate recruit with something to prove.

The 08 instate recruit I want to see in Maroon and Silver is Jimmy Mee from Libby.

I was right there with you on Hasquet. The naysayers seem to have become scarce.
