Has something changed with McDowell?

I started to see him visibly frustrated yesterday, and I'm not saying he was close to losing his compsure (since I don't know what's going on mentally), he did seem rattled.

I was a little worried too in his demeanor as the game went to OT. He looked to be sulking on the bench rather than interacting with the team, firing folks up, etc. But the offense pulled through again in a clutch moment so who knows. Maybe he was just getting focused. But it worried me.

Not at all worried about him.

He looked like a man on a mission to me, going into the first OT. No need to fire up the offense, they were already there. I figure he was reviewing what he had seen of the Bison D up to that point, figuring what could work, given how they lined up. His answer? Go to his go-to guy. And it worked, perhaps even better than he envisioned.

Wow, there's a lot of future football coaches on this thread.

NDSU and Furman are two of the top defenses in the country. If you listen to their coach after the game he will tell you they made some changes to keep Cliff in the pocket and keep him guessing about the coverage. Plus their pressure was intense. I said during the game that it wasn't Cliff's best day but those will happen and NDSU had a good deal to do with it.

Yes. Has something changed with Cam Miller? Or did he just face a great defense that made it look so?
I will grant you the Missouri Valley top to bottom is not the Big Sky. So 74% vs the Sycamores or Youngstown St is not 74% vs the Bengals or Northern Colorado.

OR is it a master game plan so that SDSU is over confident and doesn't have much on McDowell for the natty, then Pease will open up the playbook and McDowell will be 22/30 for 272 yards, 3 TDs and one rushing TD?

I think you got it right.

Sure. Each sequential week in the playoffs his ball sack has raised a bit towards his body because of the stress. That stress is probably making him second guess himself during plays at times. The only cure for the second guessing, stress, and ball hang is experience. Other than Bobby and some other coaches, he has no one to turn to for advice.

Bottom line. HE IS DOING GREAT!

Really good defenses and a banged-up, bit of a patchwork offensive line has led to more pressure on and less efficient play by McDowell. But he’s still been better than his opponents, which in the end is all that matters.

I think he's gunna ball out in Frisco. Virtually a homecoming for him - looks like he's from 3.5 hrs away from Frisco.

I think his low throws are a product of not wanting to thrown and interception. Seems like he's just trying to put the ball where only his WR has a chance at it and less chance for it to be tipped and picked. I'm probably wrong, though.

A great athlete learning to be a QB. High ceiling.

...McDowell, who fought through a busted up throwing hand all night, pitched to Bergen, who rolled to the East toward the Griz sideline. The former Billings Senior quarterback had his face-mask grabbed, so he decided to heave a prayer because the flags were already flying.

So the answer was yes...

I think it has more to do with the quality of the defenses of the last two opponents. I believe NDSU leads the division in interceptions, and they had good pressure on him all night. He made some mistakes and missed some reads but overall played a decent game.

After everything we've seen it seems really unfair to expect the same performances against Furman and NDSU that he gave in the waning weeks of the season and against Delaware. The last two defenses have been absolutely top notch.

Zero turnovers against the Bison? How many losses as a starter? He has done what he's needed to do. Definition of a gamer! Heal up and prepare to be a FCS Champion Clifton! Go Griz!

When some jackwagon was disrespecting McDowell, I said and will say again, he is the QB that the Griz wanted and the Griz needed. The dude abides!

I was just about to post about this myself. I wonder what "busted up" means, and will he be okay for Frisco? Praying he's okay.

Yes, funny this hasn't gotten much attention, because if his throwing hand hasn't been 100%, it could explain some of his passing struggles. I also wonder how Coulter knows this...

Thank goodness everyone has 3 weeks to get healthy.
