Has a three seed ever

Won't ever deny that GR. I've said a bunch that while I'm sure it was a ball for griz fans, the streak was terrible for the rivalry. It kind of started a teeter totter of shit behavior that won't go away for a while.

I think it's all about perspective though. Griz fans like to use the term validation. That is just more cockiness in my opinion. Like Cat fans talking crap or bragging about our teams is somehow just wanting validation and not being just what it is.....trash talk.

Were griz fans just looking for validation from Cat fans during the streak? After all we had way more success than the griz in the 70's and 80's. So was the more than a decade of relentless trash talk being hurled my way just a form of seeking validation? Or was it just a very cocky griz fanbase that hated the Cats and thought there success would/should last forever?

I keep it pretty even keeled. Love the rivalry and have many friends and family on your side. But I was in high school and college right smack dab in the middle of the streak and it was terrible. Griz fans were just awful. Bozeman or Missoula it didn't matter. We were terrible and Griz were really good and they still showed very little class or humility. You don't just endure year after year of being treated so terribly, and than just forget all about it when the playing field seems to level off.

I've seen a lot of really douchey Cat fans over the last 10 years as we've had success. I won't deny that. But you have your head in the clouds if you think that griz fans weren't the exact same way, tenfold, during the streak. I lived it. So I'll be honest, even a respectful guy like myself would be lying if I said I didn't take pleasure in the griz losing and Cats winning. And I maintain that as long as everyone thinks the griz program now is just what it was 25 years ago; the better for the Cat program so I'm all about it! ;)
Griz fans were cocky back then because the team was rolling and winning at a high level. That is different from what I see from a lot of Cat fans now. Many still have a lingering complex from living through those 16 losses, and it comes out in how even small wins or minor moments get treated like some kind of proof that they have finally passed UM. That is not normal trash talk. It is viewing every success (and failure) through the filter of something that happened a long time ago. Thankfully for you, and your MSU brethren, the rivalry is much more two sided since that streak ended, but I still have to chuckle every time one of your overzealous fan's starts puffing their chest about something because I know they wouldn't be that way if UM didn't thump them for 16 straight years. I for one, can find humor even in defeat, because even when UM loses, they still win a little because of what that time a quarter century ago did to you guys, and its still living rent free in many MSU fans heads to this very day. I don't live and die by the rivalry like many, but I do find these aspects of it quite amusing.

I hate the cats but I do love their envy of our program. Everything they do is chasing us, mimicking us, following us, they want to be us so bad and its just never going to happen, WE are Montana

Easy. You guys were really good for a long time. And your fans at that time were awful. Most arrogant fanbase I’ve seen.

Now a majority of you seems lost in those olden days. Nostalgic! But you have the same arrogant fanbase without any of the success you had 25 years ago. You’re very easy to dislike because you’re like Cowboys fans.

And this is with all due respect. I like this board and many of the posters. This is just generally speaking just as all of you generally speak about the Bobcats.

As far as a disrespected 3 seed. It’s just because you’ve played no one this year. You played a weak schedule with like 65% of the games at home and it was easy to see you’d be undefeated or maybe 1 loss going into playoffs.

Good news is you can shut everyone up by winning. Win a couple games at home and beat the Cats in Bozeman like so many of you assume you’ll do; and this is all moot.

Personally I think you’re a good team. I feel like Cats should have beaten you by more but that’s ok; you think you should have won. All reasonable and nothing that can be proved either way.

Win Saturday. Win the following week. I expect you to at home. Win on the 20th in Bozeman and I’ll literally tip my cap to you.
Ummm obviously you have never been around and Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan Texas or Georgia fan, or been to one of their games. Who did the cats play? a guaranteed 10000% loss to Oregon and SDSU. That's it. UC Davis and UND are bumps. I look forward to UM going into Bozoland. It's hard to beat the same team twice is the mantra, and it's pretty much true unless that team is a really bad team, and had it not been for an INT (i like to call it fate and matches the Griz and the Cats in the game that matters) it's a different result.

But... life happens, balls get tipped, points are scored off of mistakes, and here we are talking about what was and what might be.

I have to say I think you're one of the decent Cat fans.

If you are a good team its not hard to beat the same team twice. When you are less than good, it might pose a problem. That is such a stupid cliche, maybe the worst one ever

Beating a team twice happens all the time, It happened to the Lions this season. It happens in all sports often

Not true. Look at UM and Weber a number of years ago. You are too young to have any perspective on sports, and lacking in knowledge of football. You are saying some dumb things.

Well put. I've been advocating for egrizzers to listen to the Big Sky Breakdown podcast from a week or so ago, Talkin' Schmidt. I'd link it if I could. Schmidt hits the nail on the head. It may not be what you want to hear, but it's accurate.

It's funny you should say that, because in terms of disrespect this team does not hold a candle to the 2007 Griz team that went undefeated 11-0 and only got the #3 seed behind also undefeated #2 McNeese State and #1 UNI. The talk that season was that we were the weakest undefeated team in I-AA history after our historically weak schedule.

That team was absolutely loaded, and if not for a bad draw against a weird offense might have been another deep playoff Griz team.

Let everyone think we suck, who cares. If we're as good as we think we are, we'll be playing in Nashville.
Was that the team that got played like a fiddle by a little option team? Yeah that team was loaded

Ironic that you say that because as an 80's high school kid, I remember the arrogance of cat fans between their 1976 and 1984 national championship teams. This arrogant pendulum swings both ways.

So it wasn't 2007 that got beat at home by Woofard
You referenced where I said the team was loaded and then stopped reading lmao

I know! Remember when MSU played Idaho for the second time last year? It was definitely a challenge to beat them. In fact, the last two times MSU has played a BSC opponent in the playoffs that they already played in the regular season, they've won both games.

Good teams win.

Aboslutly, take for example last year NDSU beat the SDSU for a rivalry trophy and beat them again later in the playoffs, its such a lazy excuse...

Teams beating the same team twice in the same season isn't that uncommon..

The Cats have Beat Weber and Idaho twice, once in the regular season, and once in the playoffs the last couple of years
Fun fact! In every one of these games, the winner was the home team.

Bobby Hauck in double jeopardy games is 5-1 at home and 0-4 on the road.

I think there's something a little simpler than "it's hard to win against the same team twice" going on here!

Absolutely. Home team, especially in the playoffs, has a huge, huge advantage. MSU, and UM even more so, have a greater home field advantage than anybody else in the country, I think.

The Griz schedule was as tough or tougher than the Cats, except for Oregon. The Cats played a couple of very weak teams. Central Washington was way better than those teams. And the Griz played Idaho when they had their QB and the team was good or very good. It is total BS that the Griz played a weak schedule. You suffer from the very thing the OP was talking about. I always laugh when Cat fans think they deserve credit for getting completely crushed by Oregon. Scored against on every drive, I believe, all but one a TD.
Ah yes! The might d2 central washington who lost to Montana Tech a few years ago.

We are talking about this year. CW was very good. Ranked. Way better than some of the weak teams the Cats played. Tell us how your D did in stopping Oregon. Didn't stop a single drive. Gave up all TD's except 1 FG.

You obviously don't know that MT Tech is very good now. 12-0 and ranked no. 2 this season. Marching in the playoffs. Just beat 14th ranked Carroll. You've heard of Carroll, right. MT Tech has a bunch of coaches who are former Griz players.
