IdaGriz01 said:So far a good day ... although we could have done without my brother-in-law mentioning (gloating?) about the temperatures in Arizona. But the temperature is not that bad here in IF, and it is bright and sunny.
Still, the "mighty" SEC lost two out of three games so far, making them an anemic 2-4 in bowl games. Even if Georgia and 'Bama win (not a given), they would be a mediocre-to-bad 4-4. Hardly a sterling performance for the "preeminent" football conference.
We kinda knew that the Pac-12 was in a "down" year (or more), but bowl season was disastrous for them, including Washington. I mean: One out of eight?Of course, sharing bowl money for 8 games, including some big-money bowls can't be all bad.

Anyone who's been around even a reasonable amount of time has seen conferences go in and out of "power." But the pundits still go crazy talking about it. Of course, if they didn't ... they wouldn't have much to talk about. :lol:grizrgood said:... Agreed on SEC, great conference but tired of talk. PAC 12 had a tough bowl season but will be back on the winning side very soon. I’ve seen all of this before!!![]()
Happy New Year everyone!!

Personally, so-called "playoff" or not, I have no problem calling Central Florida the national champion for the 2017 season. UCF beat everyone in their conference and everyone else who was willing (or had to) to play them ... but the committee made sure to juggle the numbers so they were never even in the running to get into the big boys little club. At least the Knights got a nice paycheck.

Some people can laugh all they want, but this is a really smart move on the part of UCF. Not only do they have a perfectly good case, they'll get a lot of publicity ... with "pundits" coming out on both sides.Andrea Adelson said:UCF to celebrate perfect season with national championship banner

"If you take the long view of the history of college football, there's an awful lot of national championships being claimed by universities that didn't accomplish what we accomplished this year in those respective seasons, so we feel we're more than justified to claim our first national championship, and we think it'll be the first of many," [AD Danny] White told ESPN.

UCF coaches are going to get paid like they won the national title. White confirmed on Twitter that the previous coaching staff will be paid national championship bonuses included in their contracts. The staff was informed earlier this week.

And they put their $$$ where their mouth is: The bonuses get paid. How cool is that!
