This is interesting.

“ FARGO — At last count, fewer than 15,000 tickets had been sold for North Dakota State's season-opening game against Eastern Washington on Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. This will leave 50,000 empty seats in the cavernous NFL football palace built for the Minnesota Vikings.

While a sellout was never a possibility, NDSU's athletic department had to believe it could attract 30,000 or more to see the Bison play a game four hours from Fargo in the heart of its alumni base. That's based on the fact 34,544 Bison fans showed up in Target Field, also in downtown Minneapolis, for a 2019 game against Butler.”

That fan base has been declining for 5+ years. Very strange.

It was a stretch to think anyone but a real diehard fan would show up for a game against a nondescript 3-7 EWU team on Labor Day weekend. They hunt in North Dakota as well. I also think their fanbase is suffering from restlessness. Half of them want to go big ticket, the others do not. Sound familiar? They would have doubled that number had they been playing Minnesota instead, and the rest of the dome wouldn't look like a Red Cross drill scene. Neutral site games for FCS teams, unless it's the title game, are a waste of energy and money.

“ There is the sense of fatigue about Bison football in Fargo-Moorhead. You win nine national titles in an 11-year span and play in another title game last season ... and people feel like they're watching the same movie over and over and over again.

They're not bored of winning, as some suggest. They just want something new.

They might be in luck.

And, no, we're not talking about an imminent move to the higher-level Football Bowl Subdivision. Unfortunately, that dream appears all but dead. For now (some of us will never give up).

No, we're talking about exactly what kind of product head coach Matt Entz will put on the field this season. For the first time since 2010, you can look at the Bison and legitimately wonder how good they'll be.

That's new.

For the first time since 2010 (minus the unnecessary spring 2021 season, which is best ignored by serious football people), you can't pencil in the Bison for a minimum of 10 regular-season victories and an all-but-assured January date in Frisco, Texas.”

As I've recently joined the Sunday Morning Armchair Quarterback Club never to again act like a total ass on the sideline, I'll take more than a few reflective moments looking at the many preseason predictions, especially given the present state of college football and realignment. Fascinating turn of events in all of college football this past season.

Am being told that BW was in fact, "two deep" at the fifteen minute mark of the pod. In fact, it looks like I should have taken the over. I haven't listened as yet, but will not have anything in my mouth when Luke further outlines his paid participation in research projects as an undergrad.

PodDog is looking at Riley the way I was looking at the speaker during his call of Juniors punt return.
