Gustafson out.....Chalich or Simis?

On two of those huge Chalich sacks, it looked like he would have completely avoided pressure had he stepped up into the pocket. His weird spinning around trying to run away was absolutely the wrong move both times.

If that's how he avoids pressure, it might be better to see what Simis can do.

I remember watching the scrimmage in the spring and leaving thinking Chalich is EXTREMELY indecisive. Whenever there is pressure he seems to hit the absolute panic button. There were at least 5 all out blitzes last night that I think if he took off and ran to the perimeter he would have had 25 yard runs. Instead he ran backwards and took sacks. The O line definitely didn't help him either nor did the bad snaps. Overall I think he did okay given the situation bit I must admit I'm a bit nervous about what he or Simis can bring go the table. There is always a clear cut reason a QB gets tabbed as QB1 and that was Brady for us. Il cheer my butt off for these guys there est of the season but I'm a little nervous to be honest.

Agreed. Can we get him back?? . Him in this offemse with the ability to run and throw on the run would be awesome. Plus he was a smart, cerebral QB so would have been perfect IMO.

I was relieved to see Chalich replace Brady. At the time, I thought he was pulled, because I was in a bar & couldn't hear the TV for the noise. Chalich came in, and I could see confidence in him, and later I caught an announcer (despite the noise) saying Chalich has the confidence of his players. In short, he's the leader the Griz need now; he'll step up, and I don't care what his football past has been.

He also provides a mobile dimension Brady does not have, another weapon in Coach Stitt's offensive arsenal, even tho the coach preferred Brady as #1, and I'm glad to read on this board that Coach Stitt accommodates this ability.
I saw Chalich out there as a commanding figure, one who can take charge of this offense and rally his troops around him. Our game did pick up after he came in, after all. Hope we see this vs. NAU.

a qb still needs to get the ball from the center before feet, great arm or anything else matters.....this is a correctable mistake that should not happen in game three imo...lack of focus, would be my only guess, it is not that difficult....

Of course 4 defensive offsides should not be happening by game 3; I could go on....

someone posted in a different thread that Chalich has a history at idaho of taking the sack and/or scrambling backwards for a big loss. We saw that in spades against Liberty. I have absolutely zero interest in seeing any more of that against NAU. Lets see what Simis brings to the field.

I find it difficult to believe anyone on eGriz has even watched any Idaho football games in the past 5 years...

Well you know, DD was also extremely cool under pressure. And his escape-ability was truly amazing. Maybe we need to recruit QBs with double initials?

You just witnessed the difference between NFL arm strength and average average arm strength. Brady has a rocket launcher for an arm. I think Prater has a slighter stronger arm than Chalich. Simis and Chalich are pretty close in arm strength. I feel Simis has more consistency in accuracy though. I wish I knew what the coaches are seeing in practices. Based on the scrimmages, I felt Simis was clearly the best QB behind Gustafson.

None of our other QBs have the arm strength of BG. Hopefully we find some accuracy.

Prater has a stronger arm but apparently is unable to grasp the offense.

Ya thats kinda what I thought. Brady consistantly made across the field throws on time and with power. I also noticed Chalich missed a wide open reciever that would have been about a 50 yard bomb for a TD....but the ball fell about 5 yards short...thats concerning.

They have to adjust the offense some to fit the QB...it is not rocket science to do this.

Just curious but what exactly is it about these other guys that led to such a huge gap between Brady and them? Just the inability to figure out the playbook or they're inability to read defenses. Both? Physical attributes?

I am not so sure that Chalich is the outright QB now. In post game, Stitt mentioned Chalich and Simis would be splitting #1 reps this week then see who does what with them (not his exact words, my understanding). It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I won't be surprised to see a little time for each, unless 1 gets hot in a game to give Stitt no reason to share time. The only positive, either or both getting experience this season will help for the next few seasons too, unless Pflug and Jensen develop faster than most underclassmen QB's.
