Little early to be talking about benching the guy or revamping the offense, don't ya think?billgrizfan said:57.3% and 4 INT's is not going to cut it. You can argue all you want to but we either have to give him throws he is capable of making or look elsewhere. I don't know what the answer is because I don't really know what our alternatives are but this just isn't going to get it done.
If CP's kicker had not made a highly unlikely kick, Montana would have been celebrating another great victory. It was a good game. Needs some tightening up, but pretty good for new QB, new Offense, new HC.Htowngriz said:Little early to be talking about benching the guy or revamping the offense, don't ya think?billgrizfan said:57.3% and 4 INT's is not going to cut it. Patience really is a lost virtue.

The same should be said for a QB. If 60% of his passes are on target, but he throws enough errant passes each game to allow interceptions, then he is not the answer. Don't throw the pass unless you KNOW the receiver is open, and on the same route you expect him to be. It will be very difficult to win if we keep turning the ball over at our current rate. Duh, huh?
What? All college passing offenses require the QB to throw the ball prior to the cut. What is your point, that Gus can't do it accurately?

Now that's pretty funny too. AZ was responding to this comment of yours: " Don't throw the pass unless you KNOW the receiver is open". A QB doesn't always know a receiver is open before the receiver makes his cut. You are the dummie who made the statement that AZ responded to.

It depends on the coverage scheme as to the type of pass to throw. A bullet pass on the numbers is not a common pass given up in the Tampa 2 type schemes for the open areas the QB has available. Brady throws a nice ball on short and deep routes, but is inconsistent on the mid range throws when the pass has to be over zone LB's, and in front of Deep Zone DB's. He executed those passes well against NDSU. He struggled with that against Poly.
This is a very difficult pass to make consistently for young qb's. That is one of the main reasons why Tampa 2 like defense, Cover 2, Cover 3, and Cover 4 schemes are so common in today's football. Teams that have a QB and WR's who can consistently beat those schemes, have successful offenses. I feel Brady has the talent and smarts to find consistency in this. He definitely has the WR's to make the transition easier. I honestly feel good about Gustafson's future.
Think about this, we have a qb who threw for around 350 yards, and he "struggled". In my opinion, that is nice problem to have. The offense put up over 450 yards, and in this offense that is struggling. Hell, had the GRIZ converted those yards into points, we would not be as concerned about Gus throwing high.
In game 1 we found very little to bitch about, other than a controversial decision to kick a FG, instead of going for it. Game 2, we are debating a qb's propensity to over throw. We fans have it pretty damn good in this team when we are limited in what we can complain about, be dissatisfied with, and dispute.
I hope when the GRIZ put together complete games, players pick up their games, etc we are equally giving them credit. Speaking of credit, How about 20 tackles in 1 game by Van Ackeren (sp?)? :thumb:
