Gus Chase

I've brought this up here before, but after looking at a few different pictures and write-ups on Gus Chase, I've still got some questions. I can see he's a very talented player, but I'd like someone to explain to me how he's going to fit into your system. Will he redshirt? I'm hearing he may be playing at the 4?! This is what shocked me the most. He's listed @ 6'5 245. Can he get off the ground and get up and down the floor? What kind of range does he have?

Here at Sac, I'm worried about our lack of size and experience, but mostly I'm worried about how good you guys may be this year... again...

I have seen chase play a handful of times. He is a smaller/quciker, in shape version of Kamaar Davis. Despite of height he scores well down low and is a moose in the paint. He has a very good game out to 15 feet, with a variety of power/sneaky moves (like Strait). I think he will do great in the BSC.

Does Charles Barkley fit the bill? When he was in shape at least.

Gus is certainly undersized as he can't be any taller than 6'4". He's extremely quick however and might end up being more of a impact on defense initially. From what I've seen the other big guys have a heck of a time posting him up because of his quickness.

I really think Gus will play this year; Tinks will make room somewhere. Chase somewhat jokingly played the 2 at the tail end of one drill. They were really just skeleton-ing plays the morning of yesterdays scrimmage. After the drill was done, one of the assistants joked that Gus wanted to play the 2 tonight and Tinks said "Gus, just make sure you know the 5." That's all i got. He saw some time at the 4 last night but he could probably also play the 3. The Griz definitely have a great deal of front court talent but they just have to make room for chase. He's not big and he doesn't have hops but he just gets it done. Sometimes it's just ugly but the ball always manages to find its way through the net.

From what I have heard, he isn't too good defensively and has a tendency to hook people on the offensive end. Might have foul trouble until he figures out the Refs at this level

As soon as he can get the offense down, and run the plays right, he will do well for us. Until then he will cause mayhem for us on O.

i dunno, he does kind of mess up a lot but he really is starting to get it. Even when he is off, the offense just goes into it's basic set then they usually work the ball into the post. Once gus "goes to work" he rarely misses. He knocks down fades and jumpers that have about the same angle as shaq freethrows but they still manage to find their way through the net.

http://www.missoulian.com/articles/2006/10/30/sports/griz/griz60.txt It seems Gus has really impressed Coach Tinkle thus far. I really liked what I saw of Gus at last week'sscrimmage. Also, there will be an interesting starting lineup tomorrow.

Gus is VERY impressive and I have to say I wish he were in the starting lineup. Sure, Chavy is a veteran and knows the office but i'd love to see Gus in there. I kind of expect cameron rundles to get some big minutes at the 1. He can shoot when he needs to and his athleticism is superior to that of Martin and BE. He is confident in his abilities and knows the offense and defense very well. I could see him taking over the 1 next year.

'tis good to see chavez get the start. the guy can play, and my oh my, has he ever persevered through his own mistakes - something much easier said than done.

well, if he isn't starting, i hope chavez gets major minutes this season! it seemed like last year, krysko used him very situationally (is that a word?).

also, does anybody know if the game will be on bigscamtv.org? since it really didn't cost much, i kept my "season pass" for UM in the hopes that they would do a better job with hoops than they have done so far with football.

It is listed on Bigskytv as a broadcasted game.

I agree on Chavez. If he is in shape and has his head on straight he can make an impact. The guy knows how to score the ball and can dish pretty well for a big guy. Bigskytv has to be better on hoops one would think. How hard can it be to follow a basketball 90 feet? On second thought, maybe better wait and see.
