Gubrud does seem to give them the best chance to win this year. Hennessey would be a good fit as well, but he's not at fast as Gubrud. West is not a starter, and should probably never have been. If Adams hadn't left, West would have never been a starter aside from injuries. He's a good kid, but doesn't seem to have the mental make up to be a starting QB.
You guys were pretty high on West originally right?
Considering Baldwins track record with Qb's...we have nothing to worry about...he's coached Kitna and Reilly at CWU, and Meyer, Nichols, Mitchell and Adams at EWU...we will be just fine regardless of who starts.
I think everyone was confident in West last year, but not too high. He was essentially the only true option early on after VA announced he was leaving just before spring ball.
What are your thoughts on Eastern's lines this year? As someone else reiterated, you guys got beasted on up front consistently last season.
Our offensive line was solid last year but our defensive line was terrible.
We should be much better on D this year as we started a couple true freshman D lineman last year who will have a full off season under them now and we brought in Cal Poly's D line coach and my guess is he will be much more aggressive than we've been in years past.
Our O line will be a work in progress. We lost basically all of our starting o line. The new line will consist of younger players who have started at some point, but this will be the biggest area of concern this year. The good thing is, and I'm biased, but Eastern has one of the best O line coaches in the FCS in Aaron Best and he will do what he does here. Eastern has a new offensive scheme this year, which will be interesting and should help the younger o line
