Guess the Attendance--Reno

Why do you think they play a reg season?
and a follow up question, do you happen to own a participation ribbon factory?

So teams play 27 meaningless games to get ready for 3 real ones?

I think they play a regular season to show who the best team is.

I don't, unfortunately. Sounds like a lucrative business model though. Everyone gets one.

The BSC brought all teams to reno with idea that if they all go to the other games that it would look like somebody was there, what a cluster. Got a ribbon though!

But how do you know who the "best" is when we aren't on a level playing field, no neutral court, unbalanced schedules, etc.
You'd rather have an algorithm tell us who is the best instead of settling it on the floor?
Competitors are not afraid to compete
Just like whiners aren't afraid to whine

Trying to get back on topic, approximately what was the attendance yesterday? Not box score propoganda from the BSC, a educated approximation by those in attendance. Just wondering.

No, I'd rather the bsc fix that Royal mess up and find a way to back to a regular round robin league schedule, even if it means jettisoning some dead weight. Then we'd know who the best team is after 3 months of competition rather than 3 days.

you're not even being consistent. Sometimes you agree it should be settled on the floor but only if you can stack the deck.

You always complain that we're stuck in an inferior conference, but you prefer a small-school tourney set up, unlike how most of the big dogs do it

I think you miss the point. "Competitors are not afraid to compete", exactly all season long, going out there and wining it, my court, your court, I beat you I win. I don't want to reward a lucky streak that gets walked on later.

Is the Big Sky 12-team 18-game conference season just like the Pac-12's season? Pac-12 plays 18 conference games, and doesn't have a round-robin schedule? Does the Pac-12 hold their tourney at a pre-set neutral location and include all teams? Don't some people think the Pac-12 is one of the best conferences, with 4 or so teams in the top 25?

Perhaps you are not familiar with the Pac-12.

How many P12 schools are going to the NCAA tournament?

Perhaps you are not familiar with the NCAA tournament.

The entire POINT is that we need to protect our best team because it's the only one going to the Dance. Comparing the bsc with a P5 conference is a joke. If the 6th place team in the bsc got a Dance ticket, I seriously doubt anyone would care about where the tournament was held or how many teams played in it, or whether or not we only play Weber once on their floor. Is that really a difficult concept for some??

Then, the "best" team should prove that in the last game of the tourney. Is that a difficult concept?

No, we don't need to protect our best team. We don't even know who our best team is. If you do, tell us. Virtually no conferences protect their best team. Why don't you name the conferences that have the conference winner host the tournament.

A number of conference tournament winners this year, didn't even having winning records in the conference. Patriot league. Holy Cross, the 9th seed of 10, beat nos. 8, 1, 4 and 2. So which one do you think is the best team in the Patriot league right now? Ohio Valley. I think Austin Peay, at 7-9 and 15-17, beat the nos. 1, 2, and 4 seeds. More power to them, in my view.

Why shouldn't we compare the Big Sky to Pac-12. Sure they are way better, but we play those teams, are located in the same general area of the country, got our coach from the Pac-12, sent our last 2 coaches to the Pac-12, have 12 teams just like they do, and now conduct our tournament pretty much like they do. If your idea is to improve and be the best, we need to act like several of the lesser conferences? Is that your idea?

Weber is the best team in the conference. Montana is the second best. 27 games have told us that.

And the reason we shouldn't compare the two leagues is the answer to my question which you conveniently avoided: Because 5 or 6 P12 teams are going to the NCAAs even if their bus breaks down on the way from the Bellagio to the arena and they don't even play their first round game. No one really gives a shit about where they finish in the conference tournament. Yeah, winning is great and all. But if you're Arizona, do you really care? Hell no. It means NOTHING. To the bsc, it means EVERYTHING.

No PlayerRep, I disagree, we must protect our very best teams....after all, haven't our last 25, best, protected teams won 3 games in the NCAA? I may be wrong but I really think we should protect that proud tradition....

Neutral courts are OK if the fan base could travel to the site, reno not so easy. The argument being made is that the best team won the league and should beat the 6th place team 9 out of10 times. However the 6th place team gets a lucky streak going and wins. The 6th place team now going to the dance as the 16th seed and gets beat badly. What now happens to our BSC, when all we are going to get is a 16th seed, not a way to maybe get a game.
Not a great scenario for a one bid conference.
I know nobody does this, so what we have to be like everybody else?

It makes no difference for the Big Dogs. They send several teams anyway. We send one. One team that is seriously under manned most years. It needs to be the best. Now, Weber and the Griz survived the gauntlet and we will, thankfully, send the best team.

Couldn't agree more. One-bid conferences like the Big Sky cannot afford to send anything but their top team to the NCAAs.

If we are still guessing attendance in this thread, I'd estimate about 400 or so at the Griz-spuds game. I have seen highlights of numerous Montana School boys tournament games in the last few weeks. I have yet to see one of these high school crowds that wasn't at least five times as big as what I saw tonight in Reno. It was a great win for the Griz, but the attendance was pitiful.

I'm calling it. Time of death for the Reno experiment: Monday, 11:00 am PST.

In lieu of flowers, it's suggested you donate to the "Let's Hire Junior High Level Officials Fund", c/o Mr Foolerton, BSC offices, Ogden, UT.
