Gubner vs Zebras

Targeting is the most misused infraction in football. You see it in games in person or on TV. All subjectively interpreted. Someone posted Cookus's ejection in Missoula a couple years ago for targeting. I thought it was bullshit, but...
Bad rule with good intent. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Perhaps you could say bullshit. Still he clearly led with his head. That is why he got tossed. Incidental maybe, but it was helmet to helmet, and pretty darn funny now that you remind me of it. :D

The Cookus play happened right in front of me. He had a bead on the Griz player and it clearly appeared to be targeting in real time, which is confirmed by video.

I just reposted it here a couple weeks ago. Classic targeting, a QB trying to look like a tough guy with not a clue how to block.

I remember him being about as pissed off as anyone ever in the BSC. Then, having to be escorted off the field, into the jaws of the NEZ! Salt in his wounded ego. If its classic targeting, then it should be mandatory viewing for all officials before every game.

How about they got it right. The problem with sports anymore is fans expecting perfection from humans. Replay wasn’t working. Ref called it how he saw it and he was wrong. Move along. High school sports can’t find enough refs. Why would anyone want to deal with asshat fans as a ref anymore? Guess where BSC refs start officiating? The problem is only going to get worse. Maybe fans should try reffing for one game. See how easy it is

The problem with the entire concept (targeting) is that from the ref's perspective, if the helmet comes off, they almost always call it, even when it clearly wasn't.

Maybe we should take the ref's off the field? And put them ALL in a booth with one guy down there to dole out adjudication seen from the booth and replays. That way all the missed calls would get called and the game could go on for 5 hours...

I actually had to seriously ponder your taking the refs off the field comment. I know you were being somewhat sarcastic, but technology may get to the point where that might actually work. There is a company currently that has made yard markers electronic and measuring first downs damn near a science. Chips in the ball and high tech all the way. If it doesn’t slow the game down, why not? Hopefully technology makes for a more accurate and fair result. Certainly a lot of tweaks to be made and still a long ways to go. Especially when the damn cameras fail.
