Growler's Observations

Thank you, Growler. I think you explained to me what I wanted to know about tonights game. Good job. What I'd like to know is how a team that started so fine, UCLA & OSU, ended up like this? Anyone? I' m just looking for good objective observations. I have no axe to grind. Thanks.
Neither UCLA or Oregon State is as good as some think...I see the Bruins regularly...a very down year for all the West, and San Diego is going to be the Western team to beat...it happens...UCLA expected to win when they met UM, but once the Griz saw they could actually score and stop UCLA they began to believe they could win and the opposite was true for the Bruins....Don't forget, UM was not the only "mid major" that beat them....OSU simply sucked....the Griz did ok and next year might be a better year yet, if Tinks can change his formula of a half court game. UM seems to have the players who can pick up the tempo...but a 3 pt shooter is a must....I have given up on Selvig being more than a fair forward who is better at defense than anything else....

Oregon State, Colorado State, Boise State . . . most the teams that fans get most excited about us playing aren't that good. It's mostly a name recognition thing. Duquesne might be the best team we played all year. Their conference is rated just behind the Pac-10, and they were about 15-20 points away from 7 more wins this yr and an at large bid. Lost some tough close ones. But because most casual fans haven't heard of them it looks like a "bad" loss.

If the AD wants to drum up Griz hoops fan support, he might want to try to schedule all the weak big name teams he can.
I have to agree with you. Beating a bad Idaho team twice and a bad Fullerton team twice sort of padded the numbers for UM this year, but financially it cannot be helped. It would be a good thing for the Griz to pay in preseason tourneys in the East and South or invite the Duquesnes, La Salles', Kent States, etc to Missoula. UM has the coach to draw national attention and recruits and when it comes together, as it will, maybe the students can revive the moribund atmosphere we see at Dahlberg...Booing a ref is not a good thing....finding, playing and winning over good competition with a different style of play is the challenge most college level basketball players, men and woman, really want...the game should be fun. Not sure the game last night was fun for our guys....they looked a little stunned but the more it went on, the better they looked...This wasn't a bad loss....it was a learning experience that will pay off next year....

Sorry, but I don't think anybody actually said the refs were biased. Shitty maybe but I didn't see them. My dial up (Blackfoot should be ashamed) is so slow I won't even try to watch the so called Big Sky TV.

Who would expect good refs this time of year in the Big Sky? All the good refs are making real money doing NCAA games if not NIT games.

It wasn't the refs I'm sure.

It was a good season for the Griz. I'm one of those who is looking forward to next year.

Playa Rape always complains about the officials. He's a broken record. And, he has stated in several posts (perhaps not this thread) that he believes that Big Sky officials are biased AGAINST Montana. That is just total bull-sh*t!

Have any of you known a college athlete that believes that officials show obvious bias toward one team over another? This guy supposedly is a ex-college athlete. Yet he whines like a rec-league ball player.

I see that the player Growler dissed, Qvale, was complimented by the Duq coach as having NBA potential.

This team had very good heart, and that's why they fought back in the second half. The team's season largely ended with the disappointment of the loss in the conference championship.

Given that UM was picked to be 3rd in the conference, the team had a very good season. Almost all teams have ups and downs, and that was true for the Griz.

Congratulations on a terrific and exciting season. I enjoyed watching and following you.

Since you are so obsessed with me, because I own your sorry *ss, does that mean that you have to resort to lies to try to discredit me? I'm quite sure that other posters can read my opening post when I created this thread, by simply scrolling up. They will quickly read that I did NOT diss Qvale in any way. I said that the Dukes' 6'7" center, because of his quickness, was able to front Qvale most of the time, and keep him from getting the entry pass, thus taking him out of the game. Qvale was a non-factor in the second half, because he rarely touched the ball.

Playa Rape keeps looking like a pin head, with his fabrications and blaming everything on the officials.

You also called Qvale a "statue"? Is that not dissing him? What an idiot you are. You can't even remember what you said in a post in the same thread.

Actually, I have never said Big Sky officials are biased against Montana. Here is my only post on the subject:

"Personally, I think the refs screw UM in football more than the other teams, as a whole, at least in recent years."

Growler, you are such a liar, and such an idiot. I can already tell that I'm going to get you going and you will soon get too wild and threatening and will get kicked off the board again. It's pretty easy to get you going.
