This would definitely change my mind on a move-up if the Griz had a legitimate shot at a National Championship at the next level.

I'm in for move up if this happened.

This is exactly what Wayne Hogan predicted when he was AD here. Bottom FBS teams and upper FCS teams form an association for a mid level playoff.

"Some officials are concerned a separate national title would perpetuate the perception of the haves and have-nots between the Power 5 and Group of 5."
Interesting comment from an AD who didnt want to be identified. Just take a look at the TV money and anyone can clearly see there IS a split between the haves and the have-nots.

And I know this has been the discussion for the last few years especially. This would obviously trigger a lot of that happening. Its the first I had seen anything real concrete, especially on ESPN's CFB home page.

So let me get this strait....There will be

Power 5
FBS (but with a playoff)
FCS
Division II
Division III
NAIA

How is this any different than eliminating FCS and just having I-A and I-AA?

I do not see the Power 5 allowing this to happen, they want the focus to stay on them. I do see this forcing the FBS playoff to expand to 8 teams allowing 1 group of 5 team a spot and keeping them satisfied.
As far as the guy who said " and play for a juco championship" I don't know what school you are at but know that the top teams in FCS would probably beat your school.

Why it will happen

Frazier said he believes a Group of 5 playoff could be financially rewarding to those schools. NBC, CBS and ESPN have interest in televising a Group of 5 playoff, an industry source said.

Surprised this has not already happened. There are two to three times more "have not" then "have" teams.

When I see coaches praising the bowl system and warning the "have nots" to really think about what you are doing... it makes me laugh.

The only reason those bozos want the lower FBS schools is for pre conference red headed step child games that count as a FBS win. There is no way in hell that Florida State gives a crap about central Florida. Do you really think USC cares about the well being of Fresno State?

This has been rumbling for about 20 years and I thought by 2015 this would be a done deal. The addition of a 4 team FBS playoff has slowed the progress.

In my opinion the only way this does not happen is if FBS goes to a 16 team playoff... which may ultimately happen.

But if it does not, I for one would whole heartedly embrace a move to a "Rocky Mountains " conference, with a playoff.

It all seems to be lining up perfectly doesnt it. It also seems like Montana has prepared itself well to compete at that level with the facilities weve accomplished.

The writings on the wall.

And essentially there would be two conferences at this "new level" in the western united states...

The current Mountain West, and than assume the new conference would be the top school from the Big Sky MVFC.

Look at financial standings, program prestige and facilities, the new conference could look like:

Montana
Montana State
NDSU
S Dakota State
EWU
North Dakota
Weber
Northern AZ

You cant tell me that conference wouldn't compete with the current Mountain West

Throw Idaho in there as well

I really think it turns into 3 conferences. But my preference would be that the Dakotas go somewhere else. Not because they are not good teams, but because UM would be lumped in that conference and I would rather have UM gain the rivals to the south.

Montana
msu
EWU
Boise
ND State
North Dakota
NAU
South Dakota
South Dakota State
Weber
Air Force
Wyoming
Colorado State
Hawaii
Fresno
San Diego State
Idaho
New Mexico
New Mexico State
Nevada
UNLV
San Jose State
UTEP (very close to NM schools)

There's a handful of other Texas schools you could throw in there as well....North Texas, Texas State, etc., etc, if you're going to include UTEP.

Where do you see any suggestion that a playoff would lead the Group of 5 to expand, dilute and share that new playoff TV money? That just adds to the negative argument of a Juco playoff.

This.. I'm not 100% but I doubt any of the schools being named would be considered peer institutions. Just like the Big 12 they aren't going to expand out west because there isn't anything the TV companies want. As much as I wish Montana was there. We aren't
