No doubt about it. Coaching is by far the weakest unit on the squad. Hopefully this will change with the newer staff members, particularly the OC's and safeties coaches.
While the secondary does have a year of experience under their belts and will be better this year I think we are still going to have to rely on the front 7 defensively.
I also think that McKinney was the best qb last year but the playcalling was not to his strengths. He does need to learn how to put a little more air under the ball in his passes, but I think that can be taught. If we run more of a Seattle Seahawk offense rather than an Oregon Duck offense, McKinney should do well. I am not impressed with SSH in today's game. He simply doesn't make quick enough decisions. My guess is that Gustafson is still a year away and I don't know enough about Mr. B.
Without question the biggest concern for me is the special teams play. I can count three games we should have won had special teams done their jobs; Eastern, (inability to cover an onside kick); SUU, (insane punt coverage that led to 10 points for the opposition) and MSU, (inability to kick a field goal). IF the special teams play had been even average we finish 8-3 or at worst 7-4. Say what you will about Bobby Hauck, none of those scenario's would have played out had he still been coaching special teams. Without improvement in that area alone 2013 could be a repeat of 2012.

Mick is now firmly in control. He has done an excellent job of recruiting the necessary positions. Who knows, maybe JJ will be back and if he is, we are going to win a lot of football games. A coach has to have talented players to win and we will now have many more than last year. Of course, mistakes were made....don't we all make them?
As I said in the WR coach thread, I firmly believe Rosie hurt our team more than anyone else last year.
