Griz fell short today by losing by 12 points, 95 - 83. Halftime score was 50 - 36, so Griz played the home town team even the second half.

Leading Scorers:

Criswell 21 points, 9 rebounds
Davis 18 points, 6 rebounds
Cummings 13 points, 3 rebounds
Mansell 11 points, 6 assists

Griz did outrebound the opponent 36 - 31. Fact that they fell behind early looked to me like they were nervous, but second half played better.

As you can tell by the score, Griz need to work harder on defense. Will be playing some teams better than Wisconsin - Milwaukee later this season.

Coach Kennedy commented in previous newspapaer articles that Griz have plenty of players that can score but really needs to work on the defense. Not a bad score in view of the fact Wisc-Milw has a kid that can score 34 points on 24 minutes. I wonder what the door slamming incident at half time was all about.

If it wasn't for a couple of Panther runs, the Griz could have controlled this game. Opened the game down 10-0, that's rough. Then giving up a 15-4 run towards the end of the first half. Good game besides those two lapses.

The door slamming incident goes like this: Coach K came into half time & started talking, and then closed the door after he had started his talk. After closing the door, the electronic lock on it broke. So in order to get out, they had to pull the pins out of the hinges and then officials used a sledgehammer to remove the door. I don't think its as bad as some articles have made it out to be.

It sounds to me as though Kennedy was happy about the game, and I don't blame him. It would have been nice to get the W, but challenging good competition on the road is great experience. With a 3 game homestand coming up, there's a chance to jump up to 3-1 and get some confidence before the tougher games in the non-conference schedule come up.

Thanks for the clarification on the door incident. I was hoping Coach K hadn't gone ballistic as the paper made it seem. I agree that Griz did good @ Wisc-Milw house. Now that they have played an NCAA Tournament team, they probaly will fine tune the defense over the next week and be greatly improved when we face Northridge in their house.

Go Griz!!!!!!!!!
