Griz win cuz of early BS call on NAU QB

I don't think "by rule" it was even close to being iffy. When you watched the replay, it was TARGETING AND HELMET TO HELMET by its VERY DEFINITION. You can hate the rule, sometimes I hate it. I don't think it should always warrant an ejection. BUT, that's modern-day football and, with continued CTE revelations, it's going to get called EVERY SINGLE TIME. It's going to be enforced STRICTLY by officials at every level, and it's probably going to continue to evolve and even become more stringent. It sure as hell isn't going away. So, while again, I don't think Cookus was dirty, it was the dictionary version of what targeting and helmet to helmet is in today's game.
Except when it happened to Buss
Especially after it happened to Buss.

Yep...and yep...

Griz have had plenty of shitty calls against them over the years.

But you know what? Refs are people, too.

They make mistakes, and that is absolutely a part of the game until we figure out a way to automate the job, which will take a lot longer than some eGrizzers have left to live. That is something that has to be coached around, and it is part of coaching to ensure that teams do not fall into a position where they lose because of a shitty call.

So don't give me this bullshit.

blah blah blah
the ONLY reason the Griz won is because we put more points on the board

Here's a tip
Don't put your star QB downfield as a blocker

NAU got out coached and beat by a team using their 4th string QB
No excuses

GRIZ WIN
NEXT........

Targeting was the right call. Period. Hating the rule is fine, but they made the right call on the field and made the right call after carefully reviewing in the booth.

That's what I was thinking. The hit on Buss was 3 times worse and more blatant than the 2 against the Griz last week.

Can you please stop with the ridiculous posts? I know you are a young rookie, but you need to either stop or change your posting name and start over. I'm sorry, but I think you are a dummie.

The problem is that the call is highly subjective and plays into the biases of the refs. It’s also possible that there was a finding by the league that said that the hit on Buss should have been called. If that’s the case then the call against Cookus today makes a whole lot more sense. For the record, I think Buss got shafted last week and the call was correct today.

With replay, I don't think the call is subjective. A hit with the crown of the helmet, or a hit above the shoulders, is targeting. Hard to see at times in real time, but much easier upon video review.

Wow that call at the beginning of the game was total bullshit. If that call was made against the grizzly quarterback we would all be bitching. It's the only reason the Griz won this game.

Happened right near where we sit, and was obviously targeting. Have not seen replay yet, but Cookus was trying to send a cheap shot message in violation of the rules and he got busted. Not even close to a BS call.

It has to be. How else can you explain the no-call against Buss last week? With video replay, helmet to helmet contact (including initiating contact with the helmet) was ignored in Buss’ case. If the roles had been reversed, there would have been a call like there was against Alexander and Schye. Sucks to say but those were correct calls. The one on Buss wasn’t. However, today the one against Cookus was called. I think somewhere there was a meeting and more guidance on the rule was issued.
