GRIZ/Wildcat winner hosts......game thread

Weisner has stepped ahead of Hutchison who handled the ball under the offensive basket tonight like somebody wearing boxing gloves.

Tinks talked about the crowd being a huge boost for the guys. When Selvig got 2 fouls the assistants wanted to go small but Tinkle saw a look in Weisner's eyes that said he was ready. Congratulated Weber on a great season. When Mick mentioned this was the 1st outright title since '92 Tinkle said they honor all the players who played before them each game, but this title was for this team.

Got to love Tinkle, and what a great call with Weisner, too. :thumb: Thanks for the summary!

That may be what Tinkle would like to remember but it's not what really happened.

Stockton replaced Selvig (going small) and later made one of the worst passes of his life which Lillard easily intercepted and then took down the floor for an easy layup. Tinkle then yanked Stockton and put Weisner into the game. Weisner was terrific and made Tinkle look like a genius. All's well that ends well.

Just for the record, Stockton's bad pass was in the second half, not the first. So it wasn't after Selvig got 2 fouls in the first half. Stockton played very well except for that pass.

Steward plays hard period he is my favorite

going to miss him.
I won't miss his free-throw shooting. :D

Steward shoots free throws in about the mid-60's, 2% less than Jamar. Last year, Steward shot about the same, but was 14% better than Jamar. Just providing some prospective. Steward played very well tonight, on the boards and on defense. He also got way more offensive rebounds than any other Griz.

Weisner came in after Hutchison was ineffective, in the 1st half. After Weisner came in, the GRIZ outscore Weber State, 24 to 8, in the final 11:30 of the half. It was 16-10 when he came in for Hutchison.

Congrats on the big win tonight! It was fun seeing that type of atmosphere take place in the Big Sky conference.

It's probably already been said, but the crowd was great tonight. By far the best crowd in many many years. Loud, into it, on their feet. Later in the second half, Tinkle would rise and waive his hands for the crowd to get even more into, as Weber brought the ball down the court, and the crowd responded big time every time. The student section was very good and very large, even expanding into the upper section (way into the upper section). A certain UM linebacker was on his game and a leader in the student section, as he was for both games on Saturday. Kudos to the students.

in any big game, with the pressure and opponent's strategy concentrated on our key players, it's so helpful to get a big contribution from an unexpected source. that's what we got tonight from weisner. let's hope he can duplicate the effort in the tournament.

by the way, while i and most montana fans have the utmost respect for the quality and tradition of the weber state program, i believe they're starting to feel a bit of pressure, if not of the choke variety, definitely of the white-knuckle oh-my-god-i've-got-the-yips type. questioning whether rahe can win the big games, or whether lilliard down the stretch becomes a star or a role player. they've lost to the griz in consecutive tournaments, and lose a key game tonight. meantime, nobody on our side is questioning tinks's coaching ability, or cherry's killer instinct down the stretch. mind games? oh yeah.

Weisner had a great game. Really lifted the team in the first half with his energy. Cherry was unbelievable - he would not be denied.

Ward and Steward had solid all-around games. Ward could easily have had 6-8 more points on bunnies.

Jamar didn't play a great game, but his late three was huge! You gotta love a player who wants to take a shot like that. It was a back breaker for Weber. Selvig had a forgettable night, but the Griz didn't need him.

Weber shot horribly. They will play better next week. Lillard is a great player.

Weber shot horribly, but considering UM is a very strong defensive team might have had something to do with that....so, one down, and two to go.

Hahahahahahahaha. That's exactly why I often refer to him as cement hands. I hope his touch softens up the next few years.

That was a great game to be a part of. Very glad I was able to skate out of work and get to the game. That's the best atmosphere I have witnessed in Dahlberg. The crowd wasn't great to begin with, but as the game wore on they really got fired up and you could tell the players were loving it, especially the younger guys. Weisner was definitely a catalyst tonight, he plays very smooth. It was a shame Derick didn't perform as well. I had not really heard much about Weber's post player, but he's a great player and has a really nice touch around the rim. Wish Hutch could have that kind of touch. He really handled Derick and Ward down low when he wasn't in foul trouble. I love watching cherry play no matter what, but he was awesome down the stretch. I may have missed it while catching up here, but how is no one giving Cherry props for TYING JR CAMELS STEAL RECORD TONIGHT! WAY TO GO WILL! It was nice of Tinkle to sub out the team right after that, they deserved the ovation. And it was even better when our B Squad closed out Weber the last 39 seconds of the game with a blocked shot and some good D.

Regarding the MONTANA/GRIZZLIES chant. A guy in our 104 section was trying to get it going during timeouts in the first half. I yelled along with him as did a few others but nothing amounted of it. Glad it got going finally in the second half. Not sure who started it, but given that it was on the student section side I am assuming the cheer squad had something to do with it. The last 8 minutes of the game were pretty electric from the crowd and I sure hope the team felt the love out there. I had a good view of the bench and could see Weisner really enjoying himself at the end of the game. I do like getting to see the younger guys animated on the bench, they have been great all season and have great attitude despite not getting to play much.

Can't wait for the tournamnet!

I hate saying this, but the Griz were a better team with Weisner on the floor and Selvig on the bench. Was D sick or something?......Lots of foul trouble, not a good game. It happens. He will bounce back.

I agree regarding Kareem. I remember thinking that Kareem seemed "out of sorts", but I then looked up at the scoreboard and saw that he had quietly (at the time) put up 14 points........The dude just gets it done, and we will have him for 2 more years.

Cherry is a man on a mission. I don't see anyone slowing him down.
